Representative Democracy

Abraham Lincoln (2005) defined modern democracy in three-part as “government of the people”, “government by the people” and “government for the people”. Democracy started in Greek around 500 B.C. with the simple meaning of people with power, nowadays democracy could be separate into two forms the direct democracy and the representative democracy. In this essay, I will argue that democracy is in crisis from the following aspect, fail of the direct democracy, the decline of representative democracy and the eroded right.

In Representative Democracy it is where one person rules with the government. The people choose a person to run for office and sometimes the people run themselves. After that the people vote for who they think is best suited for the job. Some power is with the people who vote. Some power is with the people because they get to pick and vote the best person for office. The real person in power is the person picked to go into office because they get to rule the country mostly.

We live in this country for the land, and the for the free as Americans we rely on many attributes in this world in order for us to live our lives. Our government has supplied us with many great things for us to be proud of. Our government is “the institutions and processes though which public policies are made for society.” (Edwards, Wattenberg, and Lineberry, p. 7). With all these institutions which includes the President, Congress, the courts and all the federal administrative agencies. The role of elections in America is to serve the representative democracy. In a representative democracy one person represents the voting patterns, and acknowledgements of other people. American citizens, who cast votes to improve delegation problems, solve coordination problems, and pick an agent over another serve representative democracy in American elections. American elections serve this goal by creating campaigns, advertising on television, and by free information being delivered to its citizens.

We are going to take an in-depth look at how direct democracy works in Florida, and in particular what it means for initiatives, referendums, and recalls. We will then look at some of the state’s important laws that were enacted through the initiative process as well as some of the problems with the system as it stands today. The state passed a ‘Florida Supermajority Requirement Amendment’ or better known as ‘Amendment 3’ in November of 2006 requiring that all constitutional amendments went from a majority (50% = 1) to a supermajority (60%) vote requirement for passage. Throughout our time on Earth, us humans have always tried to form a way to govern ourselves whether it was with a representative democracy, monarchy, or dictatorship along with many other forms of government. Out of all of the forms of government, the best form of government is a democracy. It is the best because the leader is elected by the people, the people have rights, and laws are voted on by the people.

The form of government I choose is a Dictatorship. A Dictatorship is a form of government that has one leader, or military. The leader or military has absolute power. The structure of their government is very strong. They always look at problems head on. If they were faced with a situation they would find a way to solve it. They didn’t always shave a good solution but they did have one.

The United States’ democracy is threatened by uninformed electorates who are not wholly educated on candidates, the voting system, or politics in general. While people may have the basic understanding of politics, it isn’t enough to vote wisely. Ironically, this is a society where people can be more fixated on celebrities than political officials- who help the government function. Everyone should be prepared and completely educated before voting. Doing the right thing for the country is not by simply voting, but doing it correctly. This is a crucial and concerning matter that people should reflect on, because it affects the state of our government and their future lives.

It is the very early stages of the change of human freedom in business. Human freedom provides benefits to businesses as much as the governments. While there are economic benefits to very large organisations, there are human benefits to small organisations. Another point is that information technology has reduced the costs significantly which benefits all the organisations.

For many individuals the concept of democracy has taken on an almost sacred position. The result of democracy holding such a position with some individuals is that democracy has attained a quasi-religion status that results in its being unquestionable as a concept in the eyes of these individuals. These individuals would likely be surprised that some of greatest minds in human history dating back to the time of Aristotle and Plato and continuing through to modern times have viewed democracy differently and have actually been quite critical of it as political concept.

Normative democratic theory deals with the moral foundations of democracy and democratic institutions. It is distinct from descriptive and explanatory democratic theory. It does not offer in the first instance a scientific study of those societies that are called democratic. It aims to provide an account of when and why democracy is morally desirable as well as moral principles for guiding the design of democratic institutions. Of course, normative democratic theory is inherently interdisciplinary and must call on the results of political science, sociology and economics in order to give this kind of concrete guidance.
