Growing up with my parents, I found reading to be very fun but for religious purposes and newspaper about the incidents taking place in certain countries. Through my parents, reading started to seem like it can be beneficial if we want to know what is going on in the world and the rules and regulations of one’s religion. Although I was required to read many books for school, my parents reading habits made me feel as if I should copy them. My mom and dad would always read books or newspapers at a certain time and sometimes discuss it with each other. My parents occasionally told me that I should leave aside school books at times and read the books they do because I can learn a lot and discover many things I did not realize before and …show more content…
Such newspapers contained news written in Bengali and translated into English. Sometimes my dad told me to read the english part when I have time. I did not give it many thoughts, but when I saw my mom reading the same newspapers I started to give it a thought. I evaluated a look of anger on both of my parents' faces while they read newspapers. When I began reading, lots of horrifying news reached my head and I understood the meaning behind the anger. The things happening in some countries seemed extremely horrifying. Such things can happen never crossed my mind. I kept thinking why people in different countries are being burned alive, murdered, raped, and treated unjustly. Reading about these incidents even made me wonder if the presidents in those countries are human beings since they are not doing anything to change the injustice situations. The news gave me a raged feeling and I wanted to see a change in those countries. To stay updated, I continued reading the newspaper my father brought every week, sometimes later. Sometimes when I did not have homework for school, I sustained reading books on beliefs and faith or newspapers about what is going on in specific countries. I gained so much more knowledge on both matters which made me truly content. In “the lonely, and good company of books”, the narrator states that “I simply concluded that what gave a book it’s value was some major idea or theme it contained”
Reading and writing has never come very easy to me. There have been a lot of factors that hinder me from being able to read and write well. English has always been my least favorite class during elementary school throughout high school and it still is now in college. I can count the number of books that I’ve actually been able to completely finish reading on one hands. In school, whenever we were assigned to read however many chapters of a book at night, I would just look up the spark notes for that chapter because I have such a hard time reading. By the way, reading the spark notes does not work as a substitute for reading the book instead.
If you couldn’t read or write, how would you tackle your daily life? Being literate is a crucial part of everyone’s life; reading and writing are essential for a person’s success. Every single day, it’s used, whether it’s for an Advanced Placement Language class or reading a billboard as you’re driving past. As a child, I grew up reading on a daily basis and I believe that I am as successful as I am on behalf of it. Countless memories have been created, thanks to the multiple books that have been read and the umpteen amount of papers that I’ve written. Throughout the numerous years of my education, my teachers and parents left a long lasting impact on my reading and writing skills.
Out of all the reasons to read, I believe one of the most important reason, is that reading develops a moral compass. With many books or selections to read, it gives us many opportunities to put ourselves in other character's or people’s shoes, and learn from their mistakes; ultimately helping a person's ability to judge and make distinctions between what is right, and what is wrong. Reading gives us perspective. Morality influence through books can set standards, and can discipline core values and can help shape people into who they are.
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go,” wrote by Dr. Seuss. Whether it’s a blog, tweet, text, newspaper, novel, or a poem, people have always read to expand the mind. They read to escape the moment, to gain information, and to help direct them. On pewinternet.org a survey by Kathryn Zickuhr and Lee Rainie, show that in 2013 only 76% of Americans 18 and older have read a book in the past year. As I consider my reading experiences, I realized reading has provided relieve and comradeship on my journey, guiding me and forming my current feelings on reading. Hence my reading memories have befallen parable in my life.
When I was in Elementary School my parents, especially my dad preached to me to always read because your vocabulary will soon become sizable. I really did not care about reading for fun or about what my dad said. I know that it is my responsibility to read on my own but it did not help that most if not all of my friends in elementary school did not read books for a hobby. My parents tried to get me reading at a young age, but now I am starting to read a lot more than I did several years ago.
I’ve never put much thought into what defines reading or literacy. I know that they are life skills that are necessary for a person to have a functional place in the world. Growing up it was expected that you learned how to read, write, interpret, clarify, summarize, and question based on what is presented to you. It used to be based on textbooks, novels, and newsprint. As of now, I’ve lost count of the different ways that we can communicate.
People who read acquire an extensive vocabulary and knowledge in certain topics that for example, in a college student these two factor are important. If we grow up thinking or influenced that reading is boring, there are low possibilities than when we grow up we will be active readers. Reading brings to us a wide range of themes, where we get to find out what are we interested in. During college, as students we usually found ourselves seating in front of a screen and a keyboard waiting for ideas about what to write in our papers. We are aware what we want to write, and we feel the motivation to write, but somehow we do not have a foundation about the topic of our interest. Imagine if we could had been reading since we were little? From simple children stories to the more challenging readings, but we could have obtained the basic knowledge we need when writing college essays. Our lives will be easier that
I can't help but laugh when going through my old IEP paperwork from grade school. Most of the teachers concerns were my reading skills, and handwriting. The school threw me into handwriting classes grades 1-5. I'd miss a 1/4th of my regular class just with that. Jokes on them my handwriting is still terrible. From reading all of their paperwork and the dates on them, the reading concerns came from right after my mom passed away. I was more than capable of doing well in that area. In fact, I really loved reading and still do. I just didn't want to be there. I didn't like my peers, and I didn't like them asking about my mom all the time. You know how kids are, they are vicious and sometimes said mean things kids say. The teachers didn't help
When I was younger I started learning how to read and write. My mom started to help me read and write because it was important that school was my main focus. Even though I was very young I stayed consistent on reading and writing. Most parents start early with their kids on learning getting ready for school. At first, I didn’t like it because all I use to do was sit up and play the game. I didn’t want to do anything else until my mom brought a book in my room and told me to start reading. I looked at the book funny because I didn’t know what to do with it, so my mom sat with me and started to teach me how to read. When you read a lot, your writing comes easy because you’ll have loads of comprehension and know how to spell words. My mom has played a big role in my life when it came down to school. She stayed on top of me when it came down to my school work because she wanted me to be someone in life. With her teaching, me how to read and write early it wasn’t easy because sometimes I use to get frustrated and say that “I hate reading and writing”. When I started school my goals to bring my mom home A’s and B’s on my report card. When it came down to my work I was always focus. When I first started school, I knew a lot because I started reading and writing early.
When I was a child, my parents always pushed me to move further in my learning. One of the ways they enforced that on me was to get me to read for at least thirty minutes to an hour every day. This may not seem like much now, but back then, I definitely had strong feelings about it. During elementary school, my parents would always take me and my siblings to the local library, and even though there were times when I wasn’t interested in reading and would count the minutes go by, I thank my parents for that reading experience. Though now that I have fit myself in a focus on mathematics and science, I still enjoy reading from my list of favorite genres that I’ve developed throughout my educational career. I never exactly thought in depth before that I had a specific preference for when it comes to reading, though as I look over to my bookshelf filled with my favorite books, I can now see the different books I have grown up with.
Not everyone enjoys reading, some people hate it and other love it, because they feel as if they’re the people in the book going through whatever the book says. Another thing is that not everyone has compassion, they grew up with a “cold heart.” Meaning they never had any type of emotion or feelings towards other people who are experiencing a bad time. But with the help of literature some people start to understand and are able to comprehend what others feel and how they are able to help, it makes people grow a heart.
Everybody who learns a language needs to master reading skill beside three other skills: listening, speaking, and writing. In English language learning activity, reading skill is important to measure whether the students could understand English written forms well. The other fact that shows how important the reading skill is that many information or texts are provided in written forms compared to the spoken ones. If the students have poor reading skill, they would not understand the text even they get the information. Moreover, reading is the interaction between the reader and the writer. The reader needs to catch what the writer is trying to encode to get the correct information. Furthermore, in high school, for example, reading is the core because through reading the students can find new things to improve their pronunciation, translation ability, and other skills. Thus, those are the reasons why reading skill is important so that English teachers who teach reading should pay serious attention to this.
I lost my mom when I was young so I didn’t have her there to read to me or teach me about things or buy me books. My father was and still is in the Army National Guard and was deployed for long periods of time when I was a child. It’s like there was a void in my life and literacy has always been a temporary fill. Growing up I had always been eager to learn more and know more about random topics. I was once so into soccer that I had only read stories about soccer players for an entire school year. Another year I was so intrigued by mummies that I would search through the school library for mummy books until I begged my aunt to get me a library card to the closest library around (1 hour away). It honestly felt like my birthday every time I got to go to the city Library and choose up to 4 books of my liking and take them home.
Reading and writing are both important; you can’t have one without the other. They are skills that are increased constantly due to little things that most times are not noticed. Whether it is from a book to a poem, there will always be a way that it helps out your school performance. Reading and writing in general only helps absorb information, and enhance leisure or school related writing tasks. It has also made life itself so much easier because reading and writing are so beneficial for school and for life. How much you read and write today, will somehow affect your future job, family, position, or even your salary.
There is then the serious reading undertaken for research and for satisfying one's longing for knowledge. It may be a subject of scientific significance, or a subject of historic or philosophic importance - varying according to the taste of the person. This kind of reading disciplines the mind and trains one for critical and original thinking. There is yet another kind of reading -reading for pleasure. Though serious reading is also a source of pleasure, reading which is devoted mainly to it differs in one respect. It grows upon one, it gives before demanding and it soothes and relieves tension and loneliness. The only kind of reading which neither stimulates thought nor provides knowledge is one which is approached negatively, with the simple motive of escape and of "killing" time.
