I teach a writing only class of all girls in Charleston, SC. Naturally they technology I chose to evaluate was Paperrater.com. At first glance, I was stunned. My response was, “Wow, where were you in college”? However, as far as classroom application, I would rate this site at the very minimum. Although there are great benefits to using this website, as well as some drawbacks, there are also very limited ways to monitor or adjust the sight if usage was required by an instructor. The site does assist with meeting the state standard for 7th grade writing 7-W.4.1.a-c, which states the following…
4.1 When writing: a. show knowledge of the function of phrases and clauses in general and their function in specific sentences; b. choose among simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences to signal differing relationships among ideas; and c. use phrases and clauses within a sentence, recognizing and correcting misplaced and dangling modifiers. Paperrater.com is a teacher friendly site that checks papers for a wide range of spelling and grammatical errors. It scores your writing based on word choice, transitions, and spelling but lacks the ability to evaluate logic and analysis of the topic. This particular site however would not be used during a discussion, student

It could catch errors that may not be caught during peer editing. It also gives suggestions as far as vocabulary level, phrase usage, transitional style (based on phrases used), and even passive and active voice, based on the education level that is inputted. These all can give the students a sense of where they stand in correspondence to their peers. This would be the only research-based principle that the technology also meets, because it offers you a comparison saying for example “You did better than 71% of the people in your grade” in this
My, writing strategy utilizing rhetorical knowledge has been significantly improved through concentrated techniques aimed at developing paragraph construction by use of rhetorical modes.
Or you felt there was a better way to phrase something and could think of how? Or you know, wanted an idea of how good your essay is? Well, someone with some kick butt algorithm skills wanted the same things- so they made a pretty little website named Paper Rater. It literally gives you the ability to have feedback on your paper before you hand it in for grading! It spell checks, correct sentence structure for readability, makes style and word suggestions (yes- even tries to help you beef up your essays with vocabulary words none of us cares to know but looks great on paper!) and checks for plagiarism without registering your paper. On top of all these features- it will grade your paper! Now the website’s admins notes that their program (affectionately named Grendel, with he/him pronouns) only grades the structure and grammer of your paper- grading the arguments made and the content of your paper is entirely in your teacher’s
I've heard about the PaperRater site from students here and there over the past year, and I've finally had a chance to check it out a bit. It's like Grammarly, but it offers a detailed analysis report after examining your work.

This study set out to prove that when using technology for note-taking and assessing information in conjunction with each other there will be an increase in student performance. The data aligns with the initial hypothesis of the study and is backed by past studies findings, like Mogey’s study in 2007 and Russell and Haney’s study in 1997. The information in the article strongly aligns with the purpose of the article and does not give any superfluous information. The researchers also note threats to internal validity and the steps they took to remedy them, like using “two experimenters…as redundant quiz graders, each separately grading every participant’s quiz” (52) and having all handwritten notes converted to typed text to combat the bias that is common in grading. They also attempt to provide alternative explanations for “the results of studies demonstrating positive (e.g., Goldberg et al., 2003) or negative (e.g., MacCann et al., 2002) effects” (55), like the possibility that the location of the student had an effect on performance instead
This is the “Baby Frenzy” page which is showing all the seniors as babies. This page is perfect and full of color.
“Use technology to obtain, exchange, evaluate, and organize information”, as stated in the technological skills section of the core values and beliefs. Paperrater.com is the only reliable source that I have found that edits and catches at the such a deep level. Technology is used at all times for the purpose of education and paper rater is a source of technology that has improved my work at an different level. It as helped me obtain information that my fellow classmates were unable to identify about my work and provides suggestion for
As a student in the Educational Doctorate (EdD) program, I had the unique opportunity to assist in the development and analysis of a qualitative method study designed to investigate the doctoral student experience at Lindenwood University (LU). Even though my primary role in the study was as principle investigator, I also was part of the eight doctoral students currently enrolled in Qualitative Methods who participated in the study. An inductive approach was applied to the data collected from the study with “little to no predetermined theory, structure, or framework” (Burnard, Gill, Stewart, Treasure, & Chadwick, 2008). Student responses were coded to identify
In my opinion, I am a good student with the willingness to learn. I have many strengths as a writer like formatting papers and have solid body paragraphs. I also have a few weakness like the length of my body paragraphs and my word choices when writing my conclusion. I still I have many things to work on to make my writing better, but the only way to get better is to practice.
Synatic: Students will be able to develop multiple compound sentences while writing their reflection and reports regarding the story.
Smarthinking and Paperrater.com are tremendous assets to college students. These websites offer guidance on improving writing techniques. Within Smarthinking, the student has the option to choose what areas of evaluation are needed such as: a thesis statement, introduction/conclusion, grammar, and several other options (Smarthinking.com, 2107). Even though Paperrter.com does not allow students to choose specific areas of evaluation, it is just as beneficial as Smarthinking by providing feedback on spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, sentence styles, and vocabulary suggestions (Paperrater.com, 2017).
I was suspended academically by SMCC in the spring 14-15' year for poor academic performance. This was eye-opening because I had just transferred from Saint Joseph’s College as a pre-med student and was suspended at the end of the year academically for a poor performance. It was earth-shattering because I thought that SMCC's curriculum was nowhere compared to Saint Joseph’s college, I was wrong. I was working two jobs the entirety of the year and I put school aside, even though I was a full-time student. Work was more important because we were at risk of losing our home. I needed to make money to support my family. I believe that it was the best thing that could happen to me it helped me to humble myself and truly find passion in what I was
However, most of all it gives me feedback on what I written (1) and unlike some of the grammar checkers, it explains in simplistic form what errors were made and give suggesons for correcting. Paper Rater couldn't be easier to uses just paste in the text you want analyzed, choose what type of content it is—essay, research paper, speech, etc.— and submit it for review (Webfreebies, 2010, p.1). Within seconds, Paper Rater generates a report that analyzes several aspects of your submission (2). The premium service will allow me to pull the analysis of what sections match my research sources so it can be re-written. I have just learned that PaperRater offers scholorships for their premum service. I am now back in school but retired from teaching and on a fixed income. Even though the fee for the premium service is reasonable, I can’t afford to pay for the service because I must watch every penny spent. I would like to have the premium service for PaperRater, therefore I am writing this essay in the hope of a scholarship for the premium
