Witnessing the patience, strength, and compassionate attributions that nurses convey within their care was remarkable. Having the opportunity to make a positive difference in the life of another human being was a very overwhelming and humbling experience for me. Therefore, these encounters set the foundation towards my pursuit of a nursing career.

They were in the hospital, some, by no fault of their own, but because of lack of access and education. I identified that becoming a nurse practitioner would help to bridge that gap. I realized that becoming a nurse practitioner will allow me to expand my role as a provider and better serve my patients. As a Family Nurse Practitioner, I will be able to serve populations from neonates to the elderly. Nurse practitioners can provide high-quality healthcare to effectively meet the growing demand for healthcare services. Treating patients across the life-span, formulating health plans, and educating patients are reasons why I look forward to becoming a nurse

It is so rewarding to be able to see patients make it through challenging times and situations. Helping to take care of my father and the observing that I have done has really helped to confirm that nursing is the right career path for me. Through my observation experiences at The Kirklin Clinic and MedHelp I have learned many things about the field of nursing. I have been able to observe how nurses interact with their patients as well as perform their tasks. These observation opportunities have also allowed me to get experience with how to properly converse with patients and their families in order to keep them calm and feeling comfortable. All of these experiences have helped to prepare me to be able to handle any difficulties that I might face in nursing school. I will not let anything stop me from reaching my goals of becoming a nurse. I want to be able to provide care for those in need of it as nurses have done for my own family. From a very early age I have had a passion and drive to help people. I was first inspired to go in to a nursing career by my grandmother who would tell me stories about her experiences as a midwife. One that stood out to me was when she travelled through a snowstorm to deliver a baby, and it is this level of commitment, care and compassion that I aspire to have. I have also found inspiration from my mum who is an ICU nurse and has always shared her experience and advice with me. This has been something that has resonated with me throughout my life and has always served as an inspiration.

During my term in school I have often thought about what department of nursing I would like to go into, but I did not put too much thought into the steps it would take to become a nurse in Illinois. I have been so focused on being a mom of four, going through nursing school and keeping my job (not in medical) of eleven years that I haven’t had a real mental opportunity to consider how I will retain a holistic life balance, which stressors or challenges I may face, how I will continue to learn throughout my life as a nurse, nor what type of contributions I can make as a professional nurse. Through researching these questions, I have learned a lot about, the process and myself.

There is an endless amount of possibilities an individual can go with a career in nursing. Nursing has plenty of specialties to choose from and nursing work is widely available throughout the world. It is personally rewarding and emotional to have an interactive relationship with the patients. This career allows nurses to get on a more personal level with the patients and provide comfort and bed care. Most importantly we can make a difference in patient's lives by bringing hope. Choosing nursing as my profession wasn’t unprecedented, due to my family’s uncommon involvement in the nursing world. My own mother is the only known member in my family engaged in such a profession because of her aptitude towards empathy and her keen sight for common sense. Her involvement made me aware of this type of profession and how I could help others, thus shaping my strong belief in becoming a nurse myself. When I was in the 7th grade, I knew I wanted to be a CRNA. When I became a junior, I started to duel enroll. This was the class I couldn’t wait to take. I wanted to learn about the human body so bad. After reading these pages, it made me even more excited to learn. I hope this class is the start of a career that I will love. I expect this class to get me prepared for nursing school. I expect this class to be difficult but I hope and am willing to try my hardest for an A. I want to do well throughout my life, but this class is the base of my career. Nursing is an excellent career path to choose in today's society and a great chance to contribute to bettering the world of medicine. Nursing offers a broad variety of job opportunities and allows employers to live comfortably while receiving additional benefits. Once you begin a career in nursing you have a sturdy job for life.

Nurses provide exceptional service with the goal to restore the patients back to full health as soon as possible. Their job ranges from routine, to caring for people with life threatening conditions. The nursing profession gives back to the community and individuals. Nurses today provide care with the use of knowledge and skills that they have learned and also deal with patients overall as a person. A registered nurse must keep detailed records and reports on patients’ progress as well as administer medications. They must be alert and focused on subtle changes in each patient. They must also be able to verbally communicate effectively. A registered nurse has to be able to, sometimes, perform two jobs at once as well as interact with the patients and look at their reactions.

I chose to pursue a career in Nursing, because I’ve always been drawn to those in need. I want to provide care for my community as a way of giving back to humanity. I aspire to work within the community prolonging life, and promoting health through organized efforts and informed choices of society. When you hear of the word ‘’career’’ it makes you think of some of your long term goals in life. A career is a pursuit, occupation, profession you choose to take in life. My career of choice would be a profession that deals with being a caregiver, it doesn’t matter the age group. I want to be a caregiver because not only are you helping someone in need out, your also putting a smile on their face. I just love being able to help others and to make a change. When I was a little girl my grandfather was diagnosed with lung cancer ,so from that day forward I was always focused on being in the medical field ,I just knew that I could be the doctor that will and would find the cure to the disease’s that are killing our people off. I came to Aiken technical college to achieve one of my goals of getting a degree in nursing. Since I was a little girl I have always dreamt of being a doctor, so I knew by me taking up nursing I would get one foot in the door of following my dreams.

Nursing is a very complex career that at many times requires one to be a leader. Nurses can be leaders in formal roles and also on the unit during any given shift. Nursing is a career that truly tests the character and attributes of those who choose to enter this career. Leadership in nursing is vital in creating a successful environment for patients. According to Stichler (2006), “effective leadership is essential to transforming organizations into environments that are safe for both patients and staff” (p. 422). Therefore, it is vital that as new nurses start out his or her careers that they learn from great leaders who are already in the profession. There are several great leaders working in the field who have a plethora of
