We decided to build a multi-story parking lot around the SAIT campus as there is less parking space for the students and it takes very long in the morning to find a parking space. It has become a trend in today’s world of modern technology to go out and enjoy nature, and because of this, people have found their way to Joshua Tree National Park. One of twenty-eight national parks in California, Joshua Tree is the closest and easiest park to get to for most Southern Californians - from the Los Angeles area it is an easy two-hour drive east to reach the park. Because of the park’s growing popularity, the visitation rates in the park have risen significantly and the city of Joshua Tree surrounding the park has seen a boom in its local economy. However, since there are now significantly more people visiting the park, the local officials thought it would be beneficial to build around the park in order to properly house and serve the people attending their park. These officials, however, thought little of what this spur of development might do to the park itself. Restaurants and clothing stores were built just outside of the park lining the streets that lead people in and further around the city visitors can find places that make staying in Joshua Tree easier and more convenient for them. One of the main roads that leads into one of the entrances to the park, Twentynine Palms Highway, holds many newly developed buildings, gas stations, and shopping complexes that almost seem bizarre to find out in the desert. These types of wide establishments give off large amounts of light when the sun goes down. Street signs and light posts line the streets surrounding the park, making it take longer to get into the pure darkness of the desert once night has fallen.
