Abstract Three of the eight objectives that I have utilized the most during my practicum for Human Service 250 is, how to demonstrate a helping relationship with a client, how to demonstrate time management techniques, and how to demonstrate professional attitudes with clients and agency personnel. During my practicum I have utilized the rest of the objectives for this class, which are, how to demonstrate interviewing skills, to describe agency policies and functions, to demonstrate knowledge of confidentiality and ethical issues, how to measure, collect and interpret information needed for service delivery, and how to identify personal strengths and weaknesses in the practicum experience. Hopefully, this paper will demonstrate the …show more content…
On Monday’s, we offer Marshall Arts, which is very new for me. But in order to teach, you must learn so I have been studying and learning the arts of what is called “Baguazhang” and “Tie-Chi” which are both forms of Marshall Arts, taught by Mr. Sam. I have worked with these children as they learn to be graceful in their every movement. They have also learned self-esteem, self-control, and manners through this class. After about a month of taking this class, I felt as if I were making a fool of myself. But then, one of the parents told me that her daughter is showing more self-esteem since I began taking the class! I asked her why she thought my being in the class has helped her daughter improve. She began to laugh and told me what her daughter had told her. Her daughter stated that if Ms. Ann can do it...I know I can do it too! This gave me a great feeling! I love being of help to children and it is worth making a fool of myself for. On Tuesday’s, we have Art class. Of course, this is my favorite because I know how to do art, and I love to paint. After about three weeks my supervisor, Ms. Lou Ann, tells me that the next week 's class is all mine to teach! I needed to plan an activity for the upcoming class and instruct it. I was actually both nervous and excited, because I knew she wanted to observe me while I observed the children. And so I made it happen! I had the children to do what is known as a “collage.” They were to cut
The human service professional is central to the help process. They have the training to meet different human needs through an approach that utilizes special skills and knowledge. In doing so, the human services professional aims at both prevention and cure. The overall aim of human service professionals is to improve the general quality of human life. They strive to ensure that the community functions effectively. Therefore, human service professionals spend much time solving other people’s problems in a professional way. They do this by listening to their clients’ problems, helping the clients understand their problems and advising on the appropriate solutions to the problems in every unique situation.
Chapter 3 explains the importance of ethical competence specific to the human services field. As a professional it is important to know and understand an organizations code of ethics, as it will be a reference tool in how to handle certain situations you are faced with. Human service professionals enter into the profession with a personal set of values, goals and ethical conduct but, must always remember that their actions should always reflect the values and ethics of the company they are now a part of (site). In the event of an ethical issue a professional should always refer the ethical standards to determine what action should be taken (site). Ethics are also in place to facilitate legal implications that stem from malpractice lawsuits.
I conducted an in person interview at Deaconess Cross Pointe, 7200 East Indiana Street; Evansville, Indiana 47715. I interviewed Natalie Goffinett, who has achieved her Master’s Degree in Social Work, and counsel’s children and families at that facility. When setting the appointment to interview Ms. Goffinett, I offered her the option to conduct the interview either in person or over the telephone. Ms. Goffinett and I agreed that an in person interview would be best if I wanted to have the opportunity to tour the facilities, as well as develop a sense for inpatient and outpatient environments. Deaconess Cross Pointe is a

The section in chapter I that caught my attention was pertaining to Forming Teams and Partnership to Provide Services. This area in the book stresses how vital it is working with other agencies or professionals to assist clients with receiving services. (An Introduction to Human Services, Woodside & McClam) The concept of connecting people to services is relevant in my line of work as a probation officer. When individuals are place on supervised probation, they are required by the courts to complete special conditions prior to the expiration of the case. Upon the initial appointment, the client is directed to have a treatment evaluation or an assessment completed and at that time they are given
The purpose of this interview is to explore human service professional in their work environment, and observe human service professional in their particular settings, what type of education is required for their position of choice. The human services profession has a variety of populations that they serve; this is a wide array of people. Human service professionals serve populations such as, high-risk mothers who may have shortfalls in education, psychosocial, nutritional, and little or no transportation. This is for individuals who are lacking the mental capacity and need somebody else to help them manage their legal, financial and health problems. The mental capacity act therefore made it legal so that those who are unable to make their own decisions have the ability to choose somebody who they feel they can trust to help manage their finances, properties and to help make their health and welfare decision. This is done through the power of attorney. This act links to individuals who suffer with dementia as within the late stages of dementia they will need to give someone the power of attorney due to the fact that they will not be able to manage their legal financial and health problems.
Finding out the history, preferences, wishes and needs of an individual will contribute to their care plan, you would do this by asking and talking to the person concerned, or if they were unable to tell you this information, you could speak with their family. Ask the individual about their life, and what they used to work as etc, if they are able to tell you all of this, then you will learn a great deal about them and this will help you to offer support to them in the most appropriate ways. Residents can often find it hard to

Providing quality care to those who need it shouldn’t be difficult but sadly at times it can be; in an ideal world some effective ways to assist carers would be assessing the situation as a whole not just the pwd. Within a community there should be relevant teams that can be contacted such as district nurses, charity organisations to offer support, social services should be able to help with extra care if and when its needed, local care facilities can be helpful to provide respite all these areas would need to assess the pwd and should then be able to put to together a care plan that suit the pwd and the carer. Supporting the pwd as well as their carer is important and there for help may be needed for the carer to be able to go out if they choose or may be overnight care so they can get some well earned rest.

The purpose of this dissertation isto assess the impact of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) care continuum. This dissertationwill focuson addressing the gap in current research by improving understanding of the impacts of the ACA on care for individuals living with HIV. It is estimated that over 1 million Americans live with HIV (Kates, 2012). Though the number of HIV infections has stabilized at around 50,000 annually, there are reports of new strains of HIV arising among homosexuals (Kates, 2012). People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) are less likely to be insured due to low socio-economic status (SES), therefore, rely on Medicaid for insurance coverage. Statistics indicate that only 25% of PLWHA are virally

Working in the field of human services is a unique, yet rewarding career. Human services workers engage with diverse populations and carry different titles to include counselors, case managers, milieu therapists, social workers, etc. Regardless of what title a human service worker may hold, communication between a client and professional is vital. The purpose of this paper is to introduce a client from a particular background and address his presenting issues. It will review how I would interview my client to include specific communication techniques, ways I would establish a working relationship, discuss possible boundary issues, and recommendations or referrals to certain groups for this client.
