“My love for traveling started in first grade. My family and I went to France for two weeks and my mind was blown. First of all, the idea of flying on a plane for half the day was scary. But once we landed, the fresh French air filled my nose and from then on I knew I would cherish the new experiences.”
In the short book of “No Heroes, No Villains” by Steven Phillips On June 28, 1972, a Transit Authority patrolman, John Skagen, was on his way home from testifying at court for an arrest he made a couple of weeks prior. Skagen was taking the train home to the Bronx when he saw and stopped James Richardson who was awaiting the subway train which would take him to work at Lincoln Hospital. Skagen ordered him to “put up your hands, and get against the wall”. Skagen’s actions seem unprovoked and unnecessary. After a short tussle the two men exchanged shots and Richardson fled the scene on foot. Two other officers that were on the main street above the subway station rushed to the scene.

Without realizing it initially, each Wes Moore has been greatly affected by the life events occurring as they grew up because as they matured physically, they also matured mentally by gaining self-knowledge; the same way a hero does throughout a heroic journey. However, while both have gone through the heroic journey, their fate was not identical because of poor choices and irreversible mistakes. Wes Moore, the successful author of his book, has specifically divided his book into 8 chapters, where each shows a year that had a decisive impact for him and Wes. Similar to his book, the hero’s journey also consists of 8 parts where the hero goes through the most important stages of the journey. The correlation between the life events and the patterns of a heroic journey intertwined because both only point out the most crucial parts and have the same end results, leaving the characters to go through each event or stage only as they mature.

Many people today arrive in the United States of America in pursuit of achieving the American Dream. What is the American Dream, and what does it mean in today 's culture? The term “American Dream” was established since the Great Depression representing Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness; the very values this great nation was founded upon. The Dream was said to be successful if a person worked hard to achieve his/her goals. Even though prior the American Dream has been terminated however, citizens have transform it in terms of personal goals since the 1930s. Author Brandon King describes the American Dream as an, “Opportunity for each according to ability and achievement”(610). The American dream has to do with the concept of achieving success; being able to perform daily tasks to provide a brighter future for a person, and his/her family. Essentially, if you are passionate enough about what you do, success is always possible even with manageable obstacles. Although, hard work is one of the factors in achieving the American Dream, self-motivation has also made an impact. The reality is every citizen has the opportunity of achievement depending on his/her choices, and access to education.
Have you ever been called something horrible that was based on what race you were or something even worse than name calling? (Rhetorical Question) In the book, Beyond Heroes and Holidays, Enid Lee explains racism as the “use of individual and institutional power to deny or grant people and groups of the rights of people, respect, representation and resources based on the color of their skin”. (Logos) Such types of discrimination occur most often in schools and are expressed in many forms; in this case, students are the main targets of racism which affects not only how they interact but also how they learn in schools. Unfair situations, social problems, and negative behaviors are all the cause for a huge problem known as racism, which in today’s society is a huge problem that needs to be solved in schools everywhere. John Updike’s attitude concerning the difficulties about writing a novel are compared in his poem, Marching Through a Novel, to the actions of the military. He especially utilizes vivid imagery, martial diction, and metaphors to convey his message of the troubles faces as a writer to which he then compare with the actions of the military.
Hayden Payne kept telling herself that; Over and over as she sat there on the chair she had sat on so many times before at the call of Headmaster Carter. She'd debated not coming by the office entirely, but given what he had done to her before — given what he was capable of — she didn't dare risk disobedience. It was futile really, she already caved when she decided to come back to this place after having spent months at home with her newborn son telling everyone about wanting a career change; Yet here she was, back in the saddle.

I have always loved traveling, especially with family, whether it be to Hershey, Pennsylvania to the beaches of Maine or the imagination of Walt Disney World or the picturesque beauty of the foliage in the Berkshires. One day I hope to see the heritage, history, and exquisiteness of Berlin, Madrid, Naples, Normandy, Paris, Rio, and Jerusalem.
The main character of the Kite Runner is an Afghan boy named Amir and his family, including his servants, Hassan and Ali. At the start of the book, Amir and Hassan are about 12 years old and live in a new, wealthier part of Afghanistan because Amir’s father (Baba) is a big business man in Afghanistan, so he is wealthier. Amir is a Pashtun, which means he is a Sunni Muslim, while Hassan is a Hazara, which means he is a Shia Muslim. This means that the two would’ve been enemies most likely if they had not grown up together from the day they were born (not the same day, of course). Amir repeatedly says that Hassan is his brother because they were both nursed and breast fed by the same women, and that creates a special bond between two boys, even though Amir and Hassan are not biologically related in any way. Amir and Hassan grew up together the way that Baba and Ali (Amir’s father and Hassan’s father respectively) had a generation before them-they were brothers no matter the religion or history of violence between the two different groups of Muslims. Amir is literate and can read and write because he is Pashtun, while Ali and Hassan cannot because they are Hazara, so during the summer, spring, and fall months, Amir goes to school and Hassan stays home to do laundry, clean, and do other various chores. During the winter, it is kite flying season. Amir and Hassan used to build their own kites for the kite flying contests, but after they figured out that they weren’t really
With every march, every mile, every step I feel freedom approaching. Although I may look like a pair of dilapidated flats, my ardent nature flows through my threading. The countless grains of sand have scratched at my bottom, wearing me thin. My excessive usage helps me conform to each callus and provide the ultimate comfort of belonging with the foot of Sarojini Naidu. Even with my extraordinary fondness of her, I am tiring of all this trekking we have been doing. Relieving India of Britain’s taxation is an exemplary justification as to why I have covered over 240 miles, but my heel hurts. I fear that soon I will be of no use in protecting her sole. Still, I persevere onward with her steady pace.
The main points of the hero’s journey by Joseph Campbell is the basis of most stories throughout history, Divergent and The Epic of Gilgamesh being prime examples.
On a magnificent summers evening sat a dear friend of mine, Gabrielle. As Gabrielle and I spoke we didn’t only enjoy the company of one another, but the amazing scenery that engulfed all of our senses. With the suns’ rays perfectly glistening off of the almost glass like water which was at rest within the lake to the slight tickle of the wind blowing past us. Although this day was breathe taking nothing could have beat how brilliantly her eyes lit up as she talked about what truly drives her to be the wonderful free spirited person she came to be today.
So compelling. From the get go in the our reality a Legend was seen as somebody who brought sustenance home for their familys, Somebody who is nonselfish supplier and an immaculate hearted saint. Later on, on the other hand, Legends got to be something who did useful for all individuals of the world. That is the place Superman becomes possibly the most important factor. Superman is one of, if not one, most surely understood Legends. Yes he was conceived with super powers, yet he is who a great many people based their primary perspective of a Saint on in any case he speaks to a Super-Legend and individuals see the distinction of the two
