Clemson, South Carolina, where 22 years of my wonderful but challenging life was spent. Challenging enough I was forced to enlist in the United States Navy. During my enlistment, I met and married my wonderful husband of 24 years. Three years from now he retires with 30 years of United States Navy Service. He retires at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer four. Consequently, we had one daughter that we are very proud of. She is enrolled in college majoring in English. During my enlistment I was in a car accident. Due to my injuries, I receive disability from Veterans Affairs. I was entitled to a compensation and pension. The compensation entitled me a 48-month education with a monthly stipend, and a monthly pension. Hence, I graduated in 2003 …show more content…
A teacher is confident in their skills of, classroom management, preparing and presenting lessons, grading papers and the million other tasks. However, a teacher turned student, not so much. Now, the teacher must practice what they teach. Not necessarily the easiest thing to do. However, this teacher turned student has a plan. Motivation. My motivation is twofold. The first is to know that history is a learning program, to and learning something new is what keeps me going. When I learn something new, I yearn to learn more. The second is my own success. Everything that I have set out to do, graduate high school, graduate college, become a teacher, has been accomplished. Looking back on my success gives me the motivation to continue. This also includes the small successes such as a research paper or a project. I know the importance of planning out every stage of the learning process. Each term I use the course syllabus to create a study plan. I map out due dates, plan my study time, research time, and allow extra time to proofread and review assignments. Allowing myself enough time to prepare assignments and submit them to a writing coach and receive feedback prior to due date will not only lessen the stress, but also benefit my assignment …show more content…
Having the feeling of completion, or achieving a goal is one step closer to the big goal. For me, this is motivation enough to keep pushing forward. Understanding myself and knowing my triggers allows me to create contingency plans. During the summer while I am not teaching will be the most challenging. The absence of a standard schedule creates extra sedentary time. Time when I will be home alone. There will be compelling urge to slack off. To ensure this urge is kept at bay, I have a set a time schedule and created routines. However, when I am teaching, a schedule is already set during the day, and I have created a schedule for the evening. Different months will have different stresses. For example, December will be super busy. Stress will ensue as my student’s grades are due. Frantically grading essays and I will be consumed with work. Aware of this, I will develop a plan to avoid being overwhelmed. Many of life’s events can create distractions and cause disruption. These distractions can make you lose focus. ADHD, laziness, and self-doubt culminates my body. However, I have developed a plan to counter these. With support of my writing coach for academic issues and my family for my personal issues, I will be successful in my graduate
Motivation keeps me intrigue, keeps me striving in what I do what professionally and in my personal life with either learning a new skill or simply learning a new subject. Motivation is both external and internal as learned in Chapter 2 of “Cornerstone: Creating Success through Positive Changes”. I would say my biggest motivations are my two kids. They keep me wanting to do better; not only for me but for them as well. Not only to motivate them but wanting for them to excel in whatever they would choose for a career path. I need to keep pursuing a higher education and not become stagnate with nothing to fall back on. While in the military I’ve enjoyed my time and serve honorably but I do know this is not what I want to do for the rest of
Two years of gaps in my educational history wasn't a waste. I proudly served my country, and I started to dreamed about studying abroad in United States when I was in the
Students need to grab a calendar and fill out their core activities that they cannot miss (class or work), then simply map out time for homework, studying, reading, even gym time. Planning ahead will start them in the right path to completing their new long term goals.
Leaving High School, I thought I was prepared to go into college. I knew how difficult college was going to be. So i told myself I would do my homework the day it was assigned, I would go to the tutors if i needed help, and I would study more to succeed. But one thing I did not prepare myself for was, how to overcome stress and anxiety. According to an article, “Stress in College: Experts Provide Tips to Cope” by Megan Reed, “…30% of students reported that stress had negatively affected their academic performance within the past year, and over 85% had felt overwhelmed by everything they had to do at some point within the past year.”(National Health Assessment) This report really captivated me because 30%
I am used to having the syllabus and starting with the planning in advance. I also don’t think that it helps that I just moved the weekend before class’s started and I have not fully unpacked, so my house is a complete mess. One way that I plan to reconcile this “mess”, so to speak is by taking the holiday time off to organize and get my mind set on the fact that this is graduate school, and that this is real! This is happening weather I want it to or not. Once I get my mind on that set of tracks, I believe that it will be easier for me to focus my attention on ways that I am able to complete assignments before the last minute that they are due. I also think that demonstrating some self-awareness is going to be a key factor in gaining the ability to focus my attention to school and try to balance school, home life, work and field placement at the same time and not burn out.
Time management is another great way to prepare and get rid of undue stressors that can lead to major offenses such as plagiarism. Procrastination is often a huge problem as a student. Procrastination is an area that shows poor time management and poor time management often leads to stress because things are not done in a timely manner (Scott, 2011). Great ways to manage time for projects or events that come up is to get organized and try to stay that way, building a routine, practicing or forming a good time managing habits, prioritizing by making a to-do list, and having a schedule or a personal planner (Scott, 2011). Having a balance in life is also a great way to manage time and reduce stress. Balancing exercise and eating better into the daily planner are great choices to make because eating better and exercise aid in thinking clearer which can help you make better choices (Scott, 2011). Another part of balancing is knowing how and when to relax. Breathing exercises, working out, hobbies and interests, or just a quiet setting can promote wellness and relive stress leading to managing life with balance and fulfillment (Scott, 2011).
Since I have my Bachelors in Commerce, I have already experienced the pressures of college and know first-hand the importance of a well-organized study plan and staying on top of your work. And as a learner my biggest strength is planning from day one and allotting time to fulfill my assignments. My weakness on the other hand is sticking to the plan as life’s pressures come into play. To be successful in this course or any course for that matter is planning and making your own deadlines so that you can avoid being late and not allowing yourself to fall behind this requires a conscious effort and motivation. My plan for MDIA11 is to be proactive and prepare ahead of time especially when I know I will be busy on something else during the week
I feel stress with constantly being on a time schedule, but if I could manage my time more efficiently my performance in my class will improve. Understanding myself like how I learn best and having the right mind set will also develop a better study skill and performance. Learning doesn’t come easy for me but if I could figure out my best learning strategy I will definitely acquire better grades and I might even notice additional time in my schedule. Becoming a better student takes time but being committed to these improvements will make a difference in my academic
Being in the military and working 70 hours a week is very stressful. If you tag on going to school and having tests and projects due on a certain day life might even seem overwhelming at times. One of the things i have always been good at is managing my time. I focus on the goals i have set for myself and what needs to be done to accomplish those goals. However, i can’t be studying and working 24/7 so i have to make time to relax and reenergize at the same time. The strategy that i use to manage my time is simply writing down what i need to accomplish in the up-coming week. This allows me to visualize what i need to accomplish for school as-well as any upcoming tasks that need to be completed for work. One thing that has always helped me
My life started off in Pensacola, Florida, where i attended Sacred Heart Catholic School. From there, it was a new state every two years. Since this was my elementary school days, I LOVED IT!! So many new friends every time, and a whole new group of people that i’ve never even meet before. That was exhilarating for me. Having all the incredible memories and the friendships in each state is something i’ll cherish forever . Then, it was the
I plan to implement a more structured study time to help my learning plan succeed. I will have to plan out my free hours of the day to allow for studying for all my classes. I will also have to block out and structure study hours on the weekends to re-quiz the material for that week and for previous weeks and use that time to make the consolidated summary sheets.
During the school year, homework tends to consume my life. Though the intention of homework is to help me learn, I’m eager to learn in different ways. I really want to have the time to participate in extracurricular activities, especially those related to the careers I’m interested in. I feel like these would provide me with a sense of what I’d like to major in. The conflict is my schedule. I’m still quite busy with homework and will be adding a job to the mix, so I’m not sure where I can fit this in.
For me, self-motivation is empowering. Finding something that I enjoy and love to do and setting the final goal of achieving it. My main goal that I have set right now is to work towards finishing my degree. My motivation behind this is to be able to get a better job and
Being a teacher is often protruded in movie as a dream job. Not just any dream job, but THE dream job. Teachers finish work by four in the afternoon, have summers off and receive the love and acceptance of young cute children. But, teaching is not all that it seems to be. Don’t get me wrong, teaching is a dream job, but a lot more work and dedication goes into it than people believe. Creating lesson plans, staying up late at night to organise activities and make lessons fun, and dealing with difficult children are not just sunshine and rainbows. It is important for teachers to be flexible, and be able to adapt to any situation they might face. In this paper, we will look at a case study to try and decipher the best way for a teacher to react in a specific situation.
Learning is best for students whenever their teacher applies emotion, gives them the requisite support and challenges them. It is through such process that students gain in-depth learning and thus discover their values, abilities, passions as well as responsibilities in learning situations that provide adventure. In most school lessons, students undertake tasks that require them to use their creativity, self-discipline and craftsmanship. It is thus the work of the teacher to assist the students discover their hidden abilities and overcome their fears in applying their knowledge to classroom and job problems through in-depth teaching practice.
