Letter of Interest for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority

My purpose for applying to Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated is to honor God by serving the Black community with my time, gifts and treasures in partnership with educated Men of character. I humbly accept my call to serve and desire to do so through Omega. I have gratefully been the recipient of several Omega Men’s love which has positively influenced my life. Likewise, I desire to give myself for others. I realize that all promotions come from God and therefore I have no perceived notions about how the fraternity can assist me with achieving my career goals because I trust that the principle of ‘reaping and sowing’ will naturally come to pass as I share in service alongside of Omega. More importantly, I desire the development of manhood

​From a time when achievement was rare, and succeeding among minority was minuscule, a sense of order was needed. During this time Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated came into the world, bringing core values and achievement. Within the five objectives Kappa Alpha Psi showcases the distinction of itself from other fraternities. The founding fathers had the desire to shape a unique group personality different from the other greek letter college organizations, around the idea of achievement. When achievement was mainly concerned with improvement of personal status, security, and meeting the demands of everyday living the founders of the fraternity envisioned something bigger. Thus bringing about the Five Objectives that men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated live by and exemplify on a day to day basis showcasing Achievement in every field of human endeavor.

Alpha Kappa Alphas represent service and culture more than anything. Ever since AKA was founded in 1908, their motto has been “By Culture and By Merit”, and the mission of the sorority goes along with their motto. According to the mission tab of the official AKA website, service to all mankind, to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, and to alleviate problems concerning girls and women to maintain a progressive ingress in college life are the five components of Alpha Kappa Alpha’s mission to stand by their motto (Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc., Par. 1).

Men of Alpha Phi Alpha such as James Felton and Vaun Davis are key to why I want to pursue my aspirations of someday becoming a brother of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity incorporated. Both James and Vaun’s unselfishness has allowed me to grow as a leader and also into a man. These role models have opened numerous doors for me that have resulted into various benefits and opportunities. I hope my encounters with great Alpha Men such as James Felton and Vaun Davis will allow me the opportunity of joining the highly respected brotherhood. Another abundant encounter that I have experienced with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, is the true meaning and display of brotherhood. For years I have watched the interactions and connections of men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated I have noticed that each member that I have encountered expresses and implements the true meaning of brotherhood. I profoundly believe in the bond of brotherhood and fraternity. Members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated have made everlasting effects on my life. Having mentors in this fraternity allowed me to see how every member feels responsible for improving the communities that they are from. They never hesitate to take the leadership roles that are needed to see change. I would like to become a member of Alpha Phi Alpha because it would allow us to share a brotherhood with great men, it will allow me to make valuable connections with other positive men around the world, and it will help me become the best version of myself. My desire to become a member of this fraternity began my freshmen year after I attended the first informational meeting. At this meeting I was able to speak with members and also learn from them. They each have strong leadership characteristics that allow them to serve on executive boards across campus and they all are high achieving students at Cornell.

As I sought out to become a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. I saw that the organization matches my personality and what I stand for. My true passion is to make a difference in this world, I desire to make a significant impact on the lives of the youths to inspire them to reach their full potential. I know that Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity was established to accomplish the same things that I do, this is one of the many reasons I aspire to join this great fraternity.

When one first thinks of Greek life or a sorority the only thing that comes to mind is the social aspect. Most people don’t think of sororities as social institutions that envelop their own culture, with mannerisms, languages and customs that are unique to each individual organization. However, these institutions promote a common set of values that enable members to become connected in a way that has a more profound meaning than just social interaction. Greek organizations are good examples of how institutions can affect and be affected by social status and roles within the collegiate community. They are also a prime example of how race, class and gender can affect a social setting in both positive and negative manners.

Team Alpha Kappa Psi desires to represent the University of Pittsburgh’s Business School in the 8th Annual Berg Cup Case Study Competition. We would like to do so to continue serving and setting an example as ethical leaders within our Fraternity, University, and Community. With our team placing 2nd in the 7th Annual Berg Cup Case Study Competition last year, our team is strives to bring a 1st place victory to the Pitt Business School this year. As Pitt Business has ascended global rankings, so too should our student efforts;, and competing successfully in the Berg Cup is one represents one such opportunity that we seek to capitalize on.

All around the world sororities are a subculture or “a segment of society’s population” on most college campuses (Macionis 64). These sororities have their own language, norms, beliefs, and values. Most college campuses have many charters or different sororities to choose from when a student wants to pledge a sorority. On the Saint Francis University campus, there are seven sororities that a female student can belong to. Each sorority has a different philanthropy which is a foundation that the sorority stands behind. For example Delta Phi Epsilon stands behind the Educational Foundation, this foundation helps women get the education that they deserve. Sororities are known for creating a bond between girls that last a life time.

July 12th, 2005 is a day that holds a special imprint on our lives, Sigma Rho Phi Multicultural Sorority, Incorporated was established. Our sorority was established on the campus of City College of New York- CUNY. Seven amazing young women have allowed each one of us to take apart of a journey of sisterhood and lifetime friendships. The seven women who formed Sigma Rho Phi, were Crystal Beckford, Cassandra Holly, Daniela Costarelo, Katryna Rene, Angelina Miller, Maria Hassen, and Emily Ferrari. These seven women are known as the founding mothers of Sigma Rho Phi. The founding mothers created this sorority to focus on the pursuit of self-confidence and the achievement of academic and lifelong success in the female community.
