According to McConell (2012), the difference in a leader and a follower determines the success of a person regarding leadership. This chapter helps explain the content of qualities and proficiency for healthcare managers to be effective. Once again, effective management skills or certain qualifications enhance a healthcare organization environment. Healthcare managers and supervisors must have the capacity to handle challenges while the organization objectives and regulations may change over a period of time. Brailer (2005) acknowledges that a sizeable number of citizens receive treatment from multiple providers at a time. Interoperability is a gateway for many business ventures in healthcare to accommodate for patients being admitted in multiple provider organizations. All healthcare professionals, especially managers, must communicate effectively. A good example of interoperability is transformation of electronic medical records, or recruiting physician specialists to operate on a specific procedure (Hellberg & Gronlund, 2013). It is expected that complications must be accounted for while building a strong relationship between healthcare managers and staff. Problems are expected to occur. This is the reason why proper planning is important to healthcare organizations. Healthcare leaders might be concerned with cultural differences that exist in their organization. The problem might be caused by a manager not being involved with the immediate department or working environment. Another reason might be inequality issues that boost poor morale, downgrade associations, and devalue legal rights for healthcare systems operations. Equity guarantees that quality care would be provided to all people from various cultural backgrounds (Croxton, 2011). Addressing problems through communication, such as a staff meeting or off duty activities to improve morale within the organization, can minimize problems.

As requested, I have prepared a report on Healthcare Administrator/Manager position. The report examines some of the core healthcare management and administration concepts, my top two perceived strengths as a healthcare manager and my top two weaknesses and areas for improvement as a healthcare manager. I am a member of Boy Scout Troop 66 and I was librarian for two years and I am currently the troop guide. As the troop guide my responsibility is to help the new and younger scouts get used to the troop because it is different from Cub Scouts. I help teach them new skills and basic boy scout skills such as First Aid, knots, lashings, and more. I also assist in planning and running the activities that take place at the weekly troop meetings. I have helped teach the scouts about sprain and strains and how to treat them. I also helped teach the scouts what is supposed to be in the patrol bins that we take on every camping trip. In my own words, health care interoperability is nothing short of essential. Interoperability’s basis falls on the exchange of data, but moving more specifically it’s the ability to exchange data regardless of the many different systems and/or codes of multiple Health Care establishments to finally end in the proper use of this data to improve quality of health care. Interoperability’s definition is very specific and in today’s world I view it as a goal that the Health Care system wishes to achieve. The health care is changing at a faster pace than ever before, with new health care reforms getting imposed and emerging technologies being introduced. An organizational leader in a health care setting has a huge responsibility to prepare the health care organization for sustainability. For sustainability leaders must allocate resources to accommodate compliance to mandatory reforms as well as optional infrastructures changes to remain competitive in the global market. The mandatory and optional changes needed to be prioritized without compromising in the quality of patient care and safety care (Shiparski, & Styles, 2011). Interoperability refers to the ability to exchange information among health care providers in order to assure an accurate and faster assistance to patients. The idea of interoperability seems to be the answer to the great demand for faster and reliable health care delivery. Cultural competency in Healthcare is increasing drastically due to a number of factors. These factors include changing demographic, quality of improvements, regulatory requirements, care missions and accreditation standards. To effectively facilitate any organization, strategic goals and objectives should be established. They should be established with the provision of patient care in mind. Strategic planning implementation go through a process that consist of teams achieving the specific objectives and purposes that have been put into place by the organization. (Gertner, E. 2010)

Professional leadership and communications for healthcare has been an eye-opening course. My learning report used many words that caused bio-reactions that were unexpected. As we followed through the conversation meter and the laws of communication I become more in tune that I lack high value communications. This class has brought forward an awareness of my shortcomings, but has given me the skills to improve.
The success of a healthcare organization is governed by the many qualities and attributes its leaders possess when overseeing patient care. Such care, whether executed at the micro, meso, or macro level, can be beneficial to an organization or result in the failure when change is inappropriately addressed. Leaders, by using their knowledge and expertise, must promote care throughout all the numerous levels of management that is a replication of bureaucratic thoughts and principles or one that is a replication of the complex adaptive system.
Today’s healthcare industry relies heavily on interoperability standards to ensure that the correct data is available when needed. Not only is it important for patients and providers to have access to this information, but it is also important that the information is accessible in a way that is reliable and meaningfully used. In healthcare, interoperability can be defined as the “ability of different information technology systems and software applications to communicate, exchange data, and use the information that has been exchanged” (HIMSS Dictionary of Healthcare Information Technology, Terms, Acronyms and Organizations, 2013). Effective interoperability should mean that health information systems can work together within and across organizational boundaries for to advance the quality of healthcare to individuals and communities alike.
In a profession like healthcare where the margin for error is increasingly thin requires effective leadership. In a highly competitive market health care organizations will need dynamic healthcare leaders with the necessary experience and skillsets to navigate the new environment while maintaining a strong focus on excellent patient care. Health care unlike other professions requires its leaders to have both an understanding of both the clinical world and the organizational world (Baldwin, Dimunation, & Alexander, 2011). Leaders are important to change in health care because they strategically plan for the provision of services, acquire and allocate resources, and set priorities for improved performance (Al-Sawai, 2013).

Today’s healthcare organizations are becoming more sophisticated in their approach to leadership development and succession planning. Often leadership competencies serve as the framework, which produces the varying levels of sophistication aligned with management practices, e.g. performance evaluations and performance needs. These attributes also make a difference throughout the organization, e.g. quality, employee engagement, patient safety, financial and community impact.
