Katniss Everdeen fought for her family's survival to the point where she was facing imminent death daily. Fara Ahmedi lived in harsh conditions with her mom. Alex wanted to save himself and 13 others. The situations couldn’t be more different, nevertheless, all three are determined to survive and live a better life.
Katniss Everdeen is a teenage girl that lives in a district of basically coal mines. Her father died in a mining accident, so she has to provide for her mother and sister. Every year there is a Hunger Game where one boy and one girl from each district (state) are drawn to fight to the death. It is very brutal and only one tribute comes out alive. In this drawing, Katniss's sister gets drawn but Katniss volunteers instead because she knows her sister can’t win. This is proof of her mission, to protect her family. This is supported by “With one sweep of my arm, I push her behind me”(Collins 25). In that situation, Katniss was putting her sister behind her to protect her. Katniss fought in The Hunger Games came out as “[...] the victors of the 74th Hunger Games[...]”(Collins 403) but with a few repercussions. …show more content…

The pair was stuck on the wrong end of the Pakistani, Afghan border and knew that they couldn’t get through. Even more, they also knew that they couldn’t just wait there forever because there was nothing there, as stated by “There was nothing here, no town, no hotel, no buildings, just the desert”(Ahmedi 2). Fara was determined to survive so she adapted. She made friends with another family who knew about a secret path. The family members were very charitable and compassionate letting Fara and her mother travel with them. The text supports that by stating “That Ghulam Ali was certainly a good man, so patient with us and so compassionate”(Ahmedi 13). In the end, Fara and her mom reached safety due to the drive and determination each of them
