Katniss Everdeen fought for her family's survival to the point where she was facing imminent death daily. Fara Ahmedi lived in harsh conditions with her mom. Alex wanted to save himself and 13 others. The situations couldn’t be more different, nevertheless, all three are determined to survive and live a better life.
Katniss Everdeen is a teenage girl that lives in a district of basically coal mines. Her father died in a mining accident, so she has to provide for her mother and sister. Every year there is a Hunger Game where one boy and one girl from each district (state) are drawn to fight to the death. It is very brutal and only one tribute comes out alive. In this drawing, Katniss's sister gets drawn but Katniss volunteers instead because she knows her sister can’t win. This is proof of her mission, to protect her family. This is supported by “With one sweep of my arm, I push her behind me”(Collins 25). In that situation, Katniss was putting her sister behind her to protect her. Katniss fought in The Hunger Games came out as “[...] the victors of the 74th Hunger Games[...]”(Collins 403) but with a few repercussions.

The pair was stuck on the wrong end of the Pakistani, Afghan border and knew that they couldn’t get through. Even more, they also knew that they couldn’t just wait there forever because there was nothing there, as stated by “There was nothing here, no town, no hotel, no buildings, just the desert”(Ahmedi 2). Fara was determined to survive so she adapted. She made friends with another family who knew about a secret path. The family members were very charitable and compassionate letting Fara and her mother travel with them. The text supports that by stating “That Ghulam Ali was certainly a good man, so patient with us and so compassionate”(Ahmedi 13). In the end, Fara and her mom reached safety due to the drive and determination each of them
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins tells the tale of Katniss, a determined, independent, and complex woman trying to keep her loved ones safe and protected. Katniss’ personality and appearance contradict traditional leading lady norms, and her relationship and eventual romance with Peeta show the defiance of traditional gender roles in romantic relationships. Katniss and Peeta redefine gender roles in The Hunger Games as she stays true to her raw looks and personality, he embraces thoughtfulness, and as they both take on different romantic roles than society normally sees in romantic relationships. Scholars, Lem and Hassel, argue that there are gender roles seen in media, but I would like to go farther to say that kindness is a more
Without the help of Ghulam Ali and a positive mind, Farah Ahmedi wouldn’t have been able to escape Pakistan. For example, as Ahmedi was being shoved farther from the border of Pakistan, “The Afghans were yelling something, and the Pakistanis were yelling back” (Ahmedi para. 1). Additionally, “The guards had clubs, and they had carbines, too, which they turned around and used as weapons” (Ahmedi para. 2). Ahmedi’s goal was necessary because if she hadn’t escaped, she would’ve continued to suffer in the conditions she was living in, and it could’ve gotten worse as the time went by. As the text states, “How did I scale that mountain so easily? How did I climb down the other side” (Ahmedi para. 12)? Also, “You and your mother are in my care now” (Ahmedi para. 9). Farah, her mom, and the family they were traveling with achieved their goal by making it past the several miles of mountains with Ghulam Ali’s help. According to
Suzanne Collins wrote her dystopian fiction novel, The Hunger Games, in 2008, portraying heroic qualities through the characters and themes within. A hero is defined as a person that is admired for their courage, achievements or noble qualities. Collins’ bestselling novel follows protagonist Katniss Everdeen, as she endures many trials, conflicts and challenges throughout her journey, illustrating heroic qualities, evident through her resilience and determination. Collins also utilises the characterisation of Peeta Mellark, Katniss’s love interest, as a heroic young man, maintaining his values, integrity and kind nature. The Hunger Games presents these various aspects through characterisation, expressing various heroic qualities, ranging from strength to compassion, qualities are all imperative in a hero.
People sometimes do something for someone out of culpability. Katniss pretends to be in love with Peeta, another person participating in the Hunger Games, so they can both stay alive, based on the law that there can be two victors if they are from the same district. She doesn't want him to stay in the arena, because she knows she would feel guilty for the rest of her life if she left him to die. “ ‘ You’re not going to die’ I tell him firmly.”(Suzanne Collins page 253). Katniss takes care of Peeta when he is sick and feels guilty that she can’t do more for him. She goes and gets him medicine risking herself of exposure to all the people in the arena who are trying to kill her. She also knows she owes him for when he took a beating for her so

The Hunger Games Analysis : Katniss Everdeen There are many things people think of when reading Suzanne Collins’ novel, The Hunger Games, but one topic that scarcely gets mentioned is a tragic love story. Many readers do not see past the hatred and violence, and believe this is not a book for young adults and pre-teens, but what they do not see is the love and romance throughout the novel. There are many heartfelt moments and lessons that are overlooked because of the vast amount of mass murder in the novel, but there is one thing that is often too frequently missed that should not be because of the great lessons it can teach young teens and adults. This is Katniss’ stubborn denial of Peeta’s love, even though she has the same feelings for him, and the way they sacrifice, without even realizing it, for each other throughout the novel.
The key to survival is to never give up and have your mind set to do the impossible. In “The Hunger Games” Katniss Everdeen has to be one of the last survivors along her teammate, Petta. Katniss has to survive “The Hunger Games” for district 12 and for her to stay alive. Katniss has to survive the hunger games to return home to her family. Do you like intense fighting, along with romance, as well as hand to hand combat? If so the Hunger Games is a great book for you. It tells an amazing story of a teenage girl, in the future, going through an intense competition known as the Hunger Games. This story is performed in what they think is the near future of the U.S, where there is a live broadcast which is filming people drafted to districts to fight to the death kind of like a fighting arena but the rules were a little different, the so called game makers would control things that may distract the tributes, one in particular was the fire wall and it had a massive effect on them. This goes through a first person mode story in which we go through a young teenage girl named Katniss Everdeen as she goes through the Hunger Games using many combat and survival skills.
Exposition: Although Katniss Everdeen is only a teenager, she's a tough hunter who puts food on her family's table. Her father is dead and she lives with her mother and sister Prim in District 12 in the country of Panem. Every year the Capitol of Panem hosts an event called the Hunger Games where two "tributes" (a boy and a girl) are drafted from each of the twelve districts to be brought to an arena and fight to the death. Only one person can win. This year, unfortunately, Katniss's little sister is selected for the Hunger Games, so Katniss volunteers to take her place.
The novel Hunger Games written by Suzanne Collins and the motion picture In Time; both embraces the functionalist perspective, where they’re contributing to the stability of their nation of a whole by intimidating their citizens, by keeping the districts/time zones isolated from one another to prevent them from rallying together against an authoritative leadership, that consist of the Capitol being ruled by President Snow (Hunger Games) and New Greenwich (In Time). In both the novel and film, each district and time zones, the leadership’s uses characteristic of Weber’s Model of Bureaucracy where within the nations they have absolute control of every aspect of life, where they attempt to give districts solidarity through mechanical solidary unique to each district, where each serves through a division of labor. Both accentuates conformity to its demands and values, and to keep them from going against the leadership they maintain a constant police presence with peacekeepers (Hunger Games) and timekeepers (In Time).
Author, Suzanne Collins, who wrote The Hunger Games, writes about the hardships of Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Millard through The Hunger Games. Katniss is a very skilled bow hunter whereas Peeta has massive strength. Peeta was chosen to fight for his life in the hunger games. Katniss on the other hand volunteered as tribute for her sister Prim. “With one sweep of my arm, I push her behind me. I volunteer! I gasp. I volunteer as tribute” (Collins 22). In the end, Katniss and Peeta have to make a life threatening decision which can be the reputation of their district.
The Hunger Games is one of the most popular young adult book series of all time, and it is for good reason too. When Katniss Everdeen, the main protagonist sacrifices her own safety to protect her little sister Prim, her whole life changes for the worst. This change has forced her to do one singular thing: survive. Survival is a key theme of The Hunger Games. Katniss Everdeen survives and fights for three main things in The Hunger Games: for herself, for her family, and for others. Katniss fights for herself because she has many perils and experiences in surviving through the Hunger Games, and even before the actual Games by winning over sponsors to send her some gifts inside of the arena. She fights for family by sacrificing herself to save her sister when her sister is chosen at the Reaping, Katniss sacrifices her own safety by volunteering to participate for the Hunger Games. She also fights for others by trying to protect Rue, a nimble twelve year old girl who helps Katniss attack the Careers in the actual Hunger Games, and her district partner and love interest Peeta Mellark. Surviving is one of her first instincts in life, especially seeing that she is an amazing bow hunter who feeds her family daily, so being in the Hunger Games puts her at a slight advantage, especially when she gets her hands on the bow, but others have trained their whole lives for the Hunger Games, a group of kids who were trained at a young age for the Hunger Games called the Careers. In the end
The Hunger Games, this movie is concentrated on a novel written by Suzanne Collins. Every year children/youth, male and female between the ages twelve to eighteen are selected at random from every twelve districts and forced to participate in the annual death match; The Hunger Games. It is an obligatory penance that each district has to offer for their iniquities, the revolution that was activated and commenced against the Capitol. These tributes are delivered to the supervision of the capitol (Government) where they are transferred to an arena, which is controlled by the capitol and the tributes fight till there is only one survivor. The lone survivor signifies the strength the capitol has over the twelve districts, and the dead tributes signify the districts, how powerless they are. I chose this movie from the rest because I feel it is less complex when it comes to fully analyzing it with the questions available. The social values and the way the economy is being run by the Capitol makes it less of a havoc comprehending the way in which children and youth are being portrayed, and their values in the overpowered society.

Farah Ahmedi was a girl who wanted to cross the border into Pakistan from Afghanistan to start a new, happier, more peaceful life after losing all of her family except her mother to war. In “The Other Side of The Sky,” the author confirms Farah and her mother’s goal: “Their only hope was to escape to Pakistan”(para. 3). This quote explains that Farah did not want to leave the country out of her own choice, but it was a necessary decision. However, the country was war-torn, so she and her mom were forced to leave. Their journey to Pakistan was difficult and treacherous because it required crossing a mountainous border. Furthermore, the journey was even more challenging because of Farah’s prosthetic
