Professor Heather Synder is a new professor of Washburn who came all the way from Michigan to be an instructor here at our University; she is currently teaching Biology in the Stoffer Science Hall. Looking back at the interview, it is evident that Professor Synder truly wishes for the best of her students and genuinely enjoys teaching at Wasburn University. There were two possible instructors I had thought about interviewing, my Biology professor or my Psychology professor. My first impression of both professors were that they both seemed like friendly and approachable people; I felt I would be more comfortable to interview one of them than the other teachers I had this semester . Professor Synder was one of my choices for the interview because I do enjoy the sciences, whether it is life science, social science, or formal science. Biology might be a degree I might be interested in pursuing so I thought she would be a good choice to answer my questions. This also went the same for my Psychology teacher, but after talking to one of the students in our class, she was thinking about interviewing her as well. …show more content…
Professor Snyder’s degree is in natural resource management in environmental science, which is like a subcategory in Biology. She told me that she always wanted to know how things worked as a kid, and as a result, would take things apart to try to figure out how exactly they worked. Ultimately that was what Biology is; exploring how things work in the world around us. Another degree she had in mind was in Statistics but realized that the subject plays a role in Biology, so she went with the Biology major instead. Another question that involved biology was what was her favorite and least favorite section to teach. Her favorite is genetics and teaching the introduction of Biology whereas her least favorite is more of the physics aspect of
Upon starting my freshman year in high school, I had been in honors Biology, and it quickly became my least favorite subject. Biology was something I couldn’t understand, no matter how much
I had the privilege of interviewing and receiving a better understanding of the well-educated and accomplished professor, Cherice Evans. Ever since Professor Evans was a girl she wanted to be a Chemist and make drugs. She began her college career with trying to obtain a Ph.D. in Pharmacy (assuming pharmacists create drugs). She soon learned that Pharmacists don’t fabricate drugs, but rather study the interaction and synthesis of drugs. Because pharmacy wasn’t in her interest, one of her professors recommended majoring in Chemistry, specifically Physical Chemistry (and that is exactly what she did). Professor Evans was, and still is, very goal-oriented. With her ambitious mind, she graduated college in three and half years, received her masters in a year and a half and published works of research during that time.
For Interview a Professor Assignment I decided to Interview Tao Xu. He is my Chemistry professor; he is teaching for 12 years. Also, he joined the Northern Illinois University on August 12, 2006, for many reasons but one of the main reason was family and resource. In 2006 he was an assistant professor of chemistry, biochemistry and nanotechnology. In 2012 he was promoted to Associate professor. Also, currently he serves as a Resident Associate for Argonne National Laboratory in the Materials Science Division.
I had no idea who I would interview, and I was expecting the worse from the actual interview process. I remember feeling nervous emailing my professor, and I felt a bit anxious the day before the interview was conducted. Now that I am reflecting on it, I really enjoyed it and I am even thankful for it. I know it made me more comfortable with my professor, and has made me more likely to approach any of my other professors and teacher assistants for help. From the interview, I also learned a lot about picking the right major. Professor Inda explained that for most Liberal Arts and Science majors, you need to have a strong passion. A lot of research, writing, communication, and dedication has to be put into the work you complete. He also helped me feel more reassured with my current choices of majors, he even recommended me finding out more about dual majors because he believes that Global Studies and Anthropology are closely tied. From the interview process, I learned that I could use it as a template to go to office hours more frequently. When I go, I usually don’t now how to structure my questions, and this usually discourages me from going and I end up asking friends my questions. I know that if I had interviewed a person working in my intended profession, I would’ve gotten a different experiences and I am glad I picked to interview a professor because I feel that I gained a lot more knowledge outside of just my intended
“I liked Biology and how this worked. I always wanted to become a doctor growing up and I felt like it was the best course. It involved agricultural of science ;that's why I chose to do Biological science instead of Biology. This involves the business side of agricultural. This includes crops, animals, and as well as learning about the human biology. I wanted to go into the medical field because I like to deal with preventative medicine.I wanted to meet with patients before they get sick and help them get better before the illness worsens. “

Annette is like a counselor, easy to talk to and knows the right things to say. Her comments were very insightful, truthful and profound. Interesting because she probably knows me the least of any of the people that were advisors for this assignment. Anette believes that family, coaching and education (both my own and that of my students) are the things most important to me. She believes that honesty and integrity are values I believe in and stand for. That persevering and succeeding are things that I want to be known for. That I want someone who shares my values to spend the rest of my life with and utilize those shared families to have a family. She believes that I have fun when I spend time with friends and that I like to dance and she believes that I am a natural leader and good at presentations and getting the job done.
This past year I have set the career goal of teaching high school science. After looking at a few different degrees Texas Tech offers, I decided that I want to further my education after high by studying Multidisciplinary Science in the College of Education. At the Texas Tech Preview Day last October, I found that Texas Tech offers a path I can take to get my Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Science with a Biology Emphasis and get a minor in Coaching. Graduating with this degree is my main educational goal for the next four years.
Biology is under the college of Arts and Sciences and is categorized in the Biological Sciences department. The main chair/director is Dr. Sam Atkinson with an assistant, Kendra Donahue. The Biological Science department is located in the Biology Building 210.
The other day I got to sit down with my cousin Ashley Cuccinello and interview her about her college experiences. She grew up in Cicero, Illinois and moved out here during her middle school years. She graduated from Troy Middle School and Joliet West High school. ‘Cicero wasn’t the safest place to grow up, but my family made the best of the situation and always kept me safe” Ashley says as she looks back on her childhood. She is currently 25 years old and attends College of Dupage. Throughout her high school years, she was highly involved in many sports and clubs. She also spent her four years exploring her career options. When she graduated from high school, she started her career at Joliet Junior College for two years and then graduated and
An interview with Professor Kok was used as a foundation for the project and conformed to “preliminary research techniques” (Crosby, Diclemente and Salazar, 2006), practiced among professional health environments. This allowed the efficient planning of the overall Research Development. As the interview was a major primary source within the study, it was useful in supporting, contradicting and reinforcing ideas and concepts argued by various secondary sources. Professor Tuckweng Kok, who specialised in Clinical Virology, providing the investigative report with a professional and honest perspective of the prevalence of HIV. This credibility was reinforced, by the inclusion of specialist terminology in the interview, such as “nucleic acid sequences”,
For my field project interview I chose option #1, a single in depth interview, because I believed it would be extremely beneficial for me to interview someone in the field of work that I am interested in, as a career, when I graduate. Furthermore, the field I am interested in gaining employment is in the nonprofit industry. When choosing this option I believed that I would gain valuable information that would help me to determine if this is the field I really want to do with my degree. For my project I opted to interview June Early, the Executive Director of SAFE (Safe Alternatives for Everyone). I met June Early several years ago and applied my networking skills when evaluating my options of who I should interview. I did research online and
The name of the individual I met with was Brandon Habig, a student in another section of WU 101 who was an acquaintance from high school. While we did go to the same high school, our differences include the fact that he was a relatively hard worker, receiving a 4.0 grade point average at the end of high school whereas I put minimal effort into high school only receiving a 3.2 by the end. Additionally, we grew up in very different households with his parents forcing him to get a job where mine were largely unbothered by my lack of employment. There was a reason that I chose to interview him over the countless other acquaintances I have made over my short time in college, I wanted to have a serious discussion. I felt that it was necessary to meet with someone I was relatively familiar with so that I could ask serious questions without coming off as jaded or
Conducting interviews is fundamental as a case manager. In order to understand more about good interviewing, I decided to watch an interview about an addict mother conducted by Dr. Phil. While watching this interview, I made some notes on attitudes and characteristics that I considered important for good interviewing. The characteristics will be presented in the following paragraphs.
