Before this class all my knowledge had come from years of reading true crime stories and watching documentaries on serial cases and unsolved cases. I had never had any formal training within the Criminal Justice file the two most important things I learned throughout the past ten weeks has been how to use my critical thinking skills to analyze crimes from all aspects of the criminal justice system, and how to dig deep in researching cases and case law. I can honestly say, I am proud to have met the outcomes in my work, but do still wish to continue learning how to reference past cases and case laws in more depth for my future endeavors. In our discussions, and the other students have really helped me to see how people view the Criminal Justice
The criminal justice field has careers that provide an individual with great rewards and significant opportunities to an extent that the profession is considered as one with the bright spots in employment. Even though education in this field has had a checkered history and past, it probably has a bright future because of the increased quest for quality in criminal justice education. In the past few years, the criminal justice field has been characterized with an agenda that seeks to ensure quality while significantly extending the scope and dept of education in this profession. Consequently, few people would disagree with the fact that solid education has become an important facet of any career in this field just like other professions. However, the importance of college education and the extent of needed schooling are huge concerns for people considering criminal justice careers.

When I first started college, my academic goals were to learn as much as possible, join a Christian fellowship, get into the criminal justice program, decide whether or not to go to graduate school, and to graduate in four years. In addition, to also to either get a job or get accepted into an internship. My overall goal was to enjoy and make the most out of my college experience. My career goals back when I was a freshman, were to figure out if I want to join law enforcement or go to law school and find a job in the field of criminal justice, while being happy working the job. Over the course of two years, some of those goals have been achieved and some goals have been changed.
Students also learn the history, concepts, and critical issues related to the role of gender and race/ethnicity in the criminal justice system, victimology, and ethics in criminal
1.) The course covered areas that are critical for justice to be served. Much of the text highlighted the need for correct, reliable, complete, and understandable language required from law enforcement. The first chapter was about writing correctly by organizing, understanding confusing words and phrases and using proper sentences. This chapter also laid out ways and means to improve your verbal and written communication. This led us into Chapter 2 where the differences between oral and written records are discussed. It emphasized the importance of written documentation for permanent records which are used in the future for all types of references. Chapter 3
I believe that it is dire for criminal justice professionals to know and understand the history of the field of corrections to promote progressive change and enhancement. It is simply impossible to progress without knowing where the system has failed or faltered. I find this essential in a field that directly influences and affects humans. Professionals in the field of criminal justice are not only responsible for meeting the needs and desires of law-abiding civilians, but they are, more critically, responsible for responding to and reprimanding lawbreakers.
This was a very short semester, but I did learn quite a few things. The chapters I was more interested on were 4-6. Chapter 4 dealt with communication skills which are a very important aspect in Law Enforcement without it we would be lost. Communication is the simple process of which information is transferred from one person to another. (Hess & Orthmann, 2012, pg. 103) Some people excel at it because they were born being very sociable, others have a hard time trying to get that message to others. Practice can fix this problem over time, so there won’t be any barriers or problems getting that message send in time to get the proper help fast. Next it was Chapter 5 this chapter described all the decision-making strategies, and problem-solving

In conclusion, there were some surprises in learning about the criminal justice system. In each different part of the criminal justices there are changes that are long overdue that will change the way we view the systems in the end and have more trust in it. At the end not everything we hear is the truth, we have to look for the truths and make our own conclusion. In the end from what we get from the class we will take that information and make our own conclusion and maybe help out by being a police officer, judge, lawyer, prosecutor, probation/parole officer, etc. and help out the offender who really need
Criminal justice degree programs start with advanced overviews of the operation and organization criminal justice systems. Students learn about the purposes and functions of these system in apprehending, prosecuting, punishing and rehabilitating offenders. Coursework covers criminal law and procedures, such
In every community there is an element of crime. During my time as a Law Enforcement Officer, I had a front row seat to see the intricate and often violent interactions between the two. There were still many aspects I did not have a full grasp on. During my time in this class, I gained a more complete understanding of how the judicial and incarceration process worked. In this paper I will discuss what I found enlightening about the course materials. I will also discuss the information I gain from the guest speakers. Lastly I will make my recommendations for the class in the future.
This course fits in with my other courses because I am in the criminal justice field, which serves the public. It is a course that I need to better improve the skills I have been taught throughout my journey at NAU. It will help me have a better understanding of how I can be more successful at my job in public administration. Working with the public requires a different and unique skill set than many other jobs, therefore learning more about myself as a leader, person, and employee will allow me to better serve the people. My core courses all involved learning the criminal justice process, terms, and information, to gain the knowledge needed to graduate in this particular subject. This course will help me combine my knowledge obtained from my previous courses and help me to utilize them in the real world of public administration. It is not just about knowing the information about your particular field, but being able to work productively in a work environment that requires you to work with the public and have the proper communication skills to achieve your wanted end result. This course will help enhance my ability to apply for a job, get the job, and succeed at that job.
My research as a student has started to prepare me to participate in my academic discourse community. I plan to use the information I have gained from my research to become a thoughtful and academically engaged member of my academic discourse community. I plan to learn the ways of thinking, communicating, and evaluating the ideas and concepts that are important to my community so I can successfully interact within it. As I take classes within my major, I expect the readings and writings of the criminal justice field to not only better prepare me for a career in law enforcement, but also assist me in my role as a member of the academic discourse community. I expect there will be quite a bit of practical reading and writing, but I also expect
Life course is defined as the different pathways through the age differentiated lifespan throughout the course of a person's life overtime. Moreover, the life course perspective draws that criminal behavior tends to follow a distinct pattern across the life cycle. This perspective is also known as life course criminology. Criminality is really uncommon in childhood but is usually during late adolescence and early adulthood, then usually diminished by the age of 30 or 40. Some people never commit crimes and others become career criminals.
