As a president, Thomas Jeffereson made several changes to the United States, but his most important decision was the Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis and Clark expedition. The Lousiana Purchase would double the size of the United States and let people settle there when there were trail marked on maps and other places. After he bought the land, he sent Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to explore the western part of the country with a group of 31 men known as the Corps of Discovery. According to the book, "The animal specimens they sent back and their sketches and journal description of the plants, animals, and natural formations that they saw greatly contributed to the scientific knowledge and to a natural fascination with the West." This shows that because Thomas Jefferson sent the Corps of Dicovery on the expedition the people in the thirteen colonies got a lot of knowledge about the west when the explorers came back. Also, he was the first president to agree about buying a foreign territory while other people disagreed. In addition, another example of how Thomas Jefferson impacted and changed the course of history was by inventing several items. For example, he invented the wheel cipher. This wheel cipher allowed him to communicate with other people who also had a wheel cipher that he made. With it he sent secret codes which could be
Thomas Jefferson was a 33 year old newlywed delegate from Virginia. He was a very tall man. He was also the man who wrote the Declaration of Independence. He was one of the best, if not the best writer of his time, he wrote multiple books, essays, and passages. He was a very respected man in congress, so when he made decisions, people listened. He proposed that the dove be adopted as the national bird of America.
“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” Thomas Jefferson is arguably one of the most influential people to Virginia and the United States before and during the American Revolution. Jefferson had been a governor for Virginia during the American Revolution, he had wrote the Declaration of Independence along with four other notable American politicians, and served as a minister to France in 1785-1789. Without Jefferson the American Revolution most likely would have played out completely different and we could possibly be living a different life today.
The American Revolution, perhaps the most momentous war-related milestone in American history, would not have been possible without the strenuous efforts of the courageous men we call Patriots or otherwise known as the Founding Fathers of America, who gave their all in the fight for freedom against the British. Many names of great men come to mind when we think “founding fathers,” such as Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, or Samuel Adams. Yet there is still one great patriot and founding father who seems to stand out above the rest, and that man is Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson is widely known as being the author of the Declaration of Independence and the Louisiana Purchase that bought more than 20% of the U.S. However, what most
In 1800 Thomas Jefferson was elected president. With the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, Jefferson had the vision of the United States growing from sea to sea. However, it was unknown what was out there. Jefferson planned an exploratory expedition and called upon Meriwether Lewis to lead it. Jefferson was very interested in what was in the west lands. Much was involved in the carrying out of this expedition; the preparations for this trip, what happened during their long journey west, and the return home. This expedition was very important in the development of the United States.
Thomas Jefferson was the third American President. Due to the fact that he was such an early President, he influenced our political system greatly, both in the short and long term with his seemingly quiet approach to congressional matters. During his presidency, many things happened that changed the United States as we know it. He coordinated the Louisiana Purchase, assisted in implementing the twelfth amendment, formed the character of the modern American President, and cut the U.S.’s war debt by a third.
He is best remembered as a great president and as the author of the Declaration of Independence. He also won lasting fame as a diplomat, a political thinker, and a founder of the Democratic Party. Jefferson's interests and talents covered an amazing range. He became one of the leading American architects of his time and designed the Virginia Capitol, the University of Virginia, and his own home, Monticello. He greatly appreciated art and music and tried to encourage their advancement in the United States. He arranged for the famous French sculptor Jean Houdon to come to America to make a statue of George Washington. Jefferson also posed for Houdon and for the famous American portrait painter Gilbert Stuart.
Thomas Jefferson is considered one of the most important people in United States History. He was the third president, and he even drafted the Declaration of Independence. Many think he also had a significant role in drafting the U.S. Constitution as well. This just happens to be incorrect. Jefferson was away in France during the summer of 1787 when this important document was being drafted. He, however, was still slightly involved, but he put the majority of his efforts in the foreign affairs that were going on at the time. Because of his efforts overseas to the United States and the other Ministers, Jefferson had little to do with the Constitution but to give his position on the matter.
As our nation’s third president, first secretary of state and author Thomas Jefferson has been apprehended as a man that had a major impact on American History. Thomas Jefferson was an influential person that changed America for the best. His actions created a major change in the U.S. and still continue to change America Today. Thomas Jefferson had reasons for what he was trying to accomplish and he knew it would benefit America in the future. I believe Thomas Jefferson had a major impact on American history by purchasing the Louisiana Territory, writing the Declaration Of Independents and Passing the statute of Religious Freedom.
Exploration has always been a central theme in the development of the United States. The Louisiana Purchase, in 1803, made the government more eager to expand west. The newly acquired lands were in need of exploration. A team needed to be established to survey and document the new territory. The Lewis and Clark expedition would answer the unknown questions of the west. The expedition would not have been successful without the leadership, determination, discipline of the Corps of Discovery, and the cooperation of the Native Americans. President Jefferson wanted the leader to have the same passion and intensity toward the discovery of the west as he possessed. Jefferson hand-

Eugene R. Sheridan is a member of the Princeton University Department of History and Senior Associate Editor of the Papers of Thomas Jefferson. He has written books and articles on a number of subjects in early American History. To begin with, the author cites specific achievements that Thomas Jefferson made, starting with the contributions he did when he was part of the Continental Congress. “As a member of the Continental Congress, he proclaimed in the imperishable prose of the Declaration of Independence the values of liberty, equality, and natural rights that always have been at the heart of the American experiment in self-government” (Sheridan 64). He specifically speaks about his participation as the main author of the Declaration of Independence.

This podcast begins with our hosts thanking their 1776 club supporters which I now assume that this is what they call any and all supporters of the show. I had been wondering what they meant whenever they had mentioned their 1776 club in the past. It’s an interesting name to give to their supporters, but it makes sense with the topics that are talked about.
His gifts gave him the talents to be a statesman, diplomat, author, architect and scientist. Also during the Revolutionary Jefferson was a member of the Continental Congress. He was not known to be a great speaker, but his writing was amazing and payed for his speaking. Because Jefferson was such a excelling writer the committee chose him to draft the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration took many days to for Jefferson to draft. After Thomas was finished with the rough draft he reviewed it with the rest of the committee and made revisions where it was necessary or they suggested he changed something.
