Henry Ford’s Lasting Legacy
“Any customer can have a car painted any colour that he wants so long as it is black.” (Henry Ford). Henry Ford is one of the world’s most renowned leaders for the automobile industry. The son of a farmer, Ford has always been interested in how things worked. He has improved the models of his cars to make manufacturing them faster and more efficient by using assembly lines. He also set a balance between his employees’ wages and hours worked. Ford never stopped innovating and it is shown in his later Models of his car. Ford set standards for future motor companies and set standards for modern day manufacturing.
The son of a farmer, Henry Ford was born near Detroit, Michigan to William Ford and Mary Ligot. Since his teens Ford has always been interested in tinkering and finding out how things worked. “At the young age of 15, he dissolved and reunited the timepieces of neighbors and friends many times and gained a status of a watch repairman.”(The Famous People) Ford started to get a lot of experience through servicing and working machines. “His father wanted him to take over the family farm over the course of time but he denied telling his father that he loved the farm just because his mother was there. In 1879, Ford left home and started working as an amateur machinist in Detroit city.” (The Famous People) He denies the opportunity to seek for something better and later on, Ford would start to work for the Westinghouse Company servicing steam
Ford, as he made accomplishments throughout his career. From life all the way to death Ford was always looking for ways to improve. When Ford made the Model A, that was the best there was! People were jumping around trying to figure out how they could get one and the people that actually got it done were so satisfied with the vehicle that Ford decided he could start to mass produce the thing. Theeeennnn, well, then along came the assembly line that could produce thousands of cars in a week. The Assembly Line a way of assembling things that made it go much faster. It worked like a belt drive on a car, moving the parts down the line to every station. Every station had a few people working at it that had a specific job to
Henry Ford was born on July 30th 1863 in Michigan and came from a farming family but enjoyed working with mechanical objects. During his teenage years, he left for Detroit to work in machine shops. Three years later he returned to the farm but he also worked at Westinghouse Engine Company part-time. Ford then created a farm locomotive. Later, Ford moved back to Detroit and was promoted to chief engineer at the Detroit Edison Company. By 1899, Ford and a few other people formed Detroit
Henry Ford was born on July 30 in 1863 in Greenfield Township, Michigan he was one of the first American industrialists and wanted to make a difference in the automobile industry. Back then, before 1908 automobiles were expensive that only rich people could afford. Henry Ford wanted to change this and wanted everyone to have a vehicle to drive. He was able to accomplish this by the assembly line, in which it created more cars in less time. The first car Henry Ford made was the Model T created on the assembly line. Ford’s innovation in manufacturing created less expensive cars and higher wage jobs. Henry Ford was also was a big help to the World War II as well because he built vehicles in that time to support the people in the War. Henry at
Henry Ford had only a modest education. He didn’t invent the gasoline engine; he didn’t invent the auto mobile; he didn’t really invent anything. Yet, when he died in 1947, Ford, and the company he founded had a profound effect on the world he taught to drive. Given all that he had accomplished, it’s hard to believe Henry Ford was almost 40 when he established the Ford Motor Company. At the time America was more agricultural than industrial. Horse-less carriages were toys for a wealthy few. But in just four decades, Henry Ford had in his own words, “invented the modern age”.
When you think about Ford, an automobile will usually come to mind. Most people don’t think about the man behind that name, Henry Ford. Henry Ford was the man responsible for the Ford Motor Company (FMC). He was also the creator of the invention that changed the mass production industry, the assembly line. As you read on you will learn about Henry Ford’s life, the FMC, and the assembly line.
Henry Ford decided to take the risk of pursuing his dream of machines when he left the family farm in 1879 to work at a car company in Michigan. He believed he had more of an interest in machines than he did in farming, but his father thought differently. Ford’s father wanted him to follow his footsteps on the farm, but unfortunately, it did not turn out in his
In 1908 Henry Ford had constructed the Model T; the time it took him to create this automobile was 13 days. Now eager to achieve more, Ford knew that he needed a place to construct these cars. He also knew that to sell mass amounts he would have to sell cheap, and buy parts and supplies even cheaper (Douglas, 25). The construction of the first Ford Motor plant used the world’s only conveyer belt. This was part of the Fords plan to build fast, when he constructed the assembly line cars were pumped out in as fast as 15 minuets, this was down from 19 days. Ford was able to make the automobile a car for everyman, a working man with a family.
Ford was raised on a small farm ran by his father outside of Detroit (Mitchell,1). As a child Henry was very interested in machinery. He always wanted a simpler way to do everything. “His Father would go to town and ask the children what they wanted. Henry's brother and sister would ask for candy but henry always asked for clock wheels.”
Henry Ford was a self-sufficient man, he is greatly known for initiating the era of mass consumption and mass production in the American economy. Not only did he create “Ford Motor Company” but he is also known for numerous other things such as creating the moving assembly line, high wages and sponsoring Americanization school for foreign workers so they could have a successful future.
Henry Ford through the success of the Ford Motor Company revolutionized and enhanced the working industry, the nation’s economy and thousands of families throughout the country. Through hard work and determination Ford created the assembly line which improved business and furthered the industrial world, bettering Americans lives. The Ford Company was a highly successful corporation “in the first year the sales of the Ford Motor Company brought them a million and a half dollars, nearly one fourth of which was profit” (Ford, p 16). This was a major boost in the economy which effectively improved the nation and stabilized the capitalistic system within the United States, which at this time was struggling. Ford’s relationship with Abner Shutt shows the world how workers felt toward his organization and the appreciation they had. Throughout his career Henry Ford sought to improve the nation and her people, being a progressive reformer he took many responsibilities that fulfills this characteristic in many ways more than one. Henry Ford was a major impact throughout the nation and his influence lives

Henry Ford was an engineer from Detroit, Michigan who had an idea. By 1902, Ford had attempted several times to produce a gas powered vehicle, but with little capital, he realized that his attempts were futile. Ford approached a man by the name of Alexander T. Malcomson about the possibility of manufacturing an automobile. Malcomson, a friend of the family and wealthy coal merchant was reluctant at first but finally agreed with Ford, and decided to assit Ford financially with his endeavor. With Malcomsons investment and Ford's engineering skills a partnership was formed and in mid June of 1903, papers of incorporation for the Ford Motor Company were filed in Dearborn, Michigan.

Henry Ford once said “When everything seems to be going against you, remember that airplanes take off against the wind, not with it”. Henry Ford was one of America 's foremost industrialist so he would know. He revolutionized assembly line modes of production for the automobile. Everyone if faced with adversity at one time or another. Every person that you have ever met has experienced hardships of their own.
Ford was created in 1903 by Henry Ford in Detroit, MI. He quickly revolutionize the development of the automobile as a product and he also was the visionary behind the assembly line for mass production, and in turn made it possible for automobiles to become more affordable for the average household. Ford had a strong belief in his mission statement, which defines the kind of actions that are needed to fulfill organizational goal. However, Ford also had a vision statement that helped drive its global organization to reach its higher performance levels. Both areas assist in the overall foundation that Ford’s strong beliefs stand on. Both mission and vision statement are factors that solidify the success and strategic direction in the automotive industry.
