Hamas: The Group’s Origins
“Hamas is an Arabic acronym for the Islamic Resistance Movement”.
A long history of suicide bombings and other attacks on Israeli civilians and military targets has earned Hamas a well deserved reputation as a murderous terrorist organization. Hamas’s origins stretch back decades through the Muslim Brotherhood in Palestine; and Hamas took it current shape during the early years of the intifada. Hamas was not only formed to resist an Israeli state, but also was firmly against the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s (PLO) dominance in the Palestinian National movement. By the late 1980’s the PLO’s role as the forerunner of Palestinian nationalism

The Hamas founder and spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin was born in 1937 in Jura, small village near the town of Majdal. In 1948 he and his family were forced to move to Gaza after his village was destroyed during the Arab-Israeli War. At the age of 22 in 1960 Yassin married one of his relatives Halima Yassin together having eleven children. In 1984 Yassin was arrested and sentenced to 13 years in jail for the illegal possession of arms, his establishment of a military organization and for his public rhetoric calling for a jihad against non Muslims and the annihilation of Israel. Yassin was arrested and released from Jail several times, before he officially co-founded Hamas with Abdel Aziz al-Rantissi in 1987, they originally called the movement the Palestinian Wing of the Muslim Brotherhood. “By 1989 he ordered Hamas to kidnap Israeli soldiers inside Israel, to murder them and bury their bodies in a manner that would allow Hamas to negotiate the exchange of bodies for Hamas prisoners, who he hoped would be released from jails in Israel”. His demise came when he was killed in an Israeli airstrike in 2004 as he was leaving a Gaza City mosque.
The current Hamas spiritual leader Yunis Al-Astal was born in 1956 in the Gaza city of
Many Palestinians are killed by Hamas, Israel, and ISIS forces because they believe Palestinian refugees shouldn't live. Every day some Palestinian refugees are killed for doing nothing and the refugees cannot do anything to save themselves from dying. It is hard for the Palestinian refugees to find food, water, shelter, and get medical attention if they get hurt. It is not fair that Hamas, Israel, and ISIS forces are attacking Palestinian refugees. The only thing the Palestinians want is to live in their homeland without having to be hurt by anyone. The life of a Palestinian refugee is difficult, but they haven't given up hope of surviving because there is always a miracle to save some of them every
-Palestinians—most Palestinian organizations like Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) just want to have their own state and Israelis withdrawn from the occupied territories but extremist like Hamas wants to takeover the whole Israel and either make Jews as second citizens or push them to the sea.
The ANO is a terrorist organization the resides in the Israel/Palestine state, whose goals are to destroy the existing Israeli state that they’ve been forced to share their land with. “Founded in 1974 by Sabri al-Banna whose nom de guerre, Abu Nidal, means ‘father of the struggle.’ Abu Nidal was a high-ranking official in the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), and served as PLO representative to several Arab states. Abu Nidal bitterly opposed the idea of a Palestinian state co-existing with an Israeli state and after the PLO began leaning towards reconciliation with the Jewish state, he split with the group to form the ANO.” (Aden, Huda, et al. "Foreign Terrorist Organizations." Congressional Research Service (CRS) Reports and Issue Briefs. Congressional Research Service (CRS) Reports and Issue Briefs, 2004. General OneFile. They demanded that the two hundred Palestinians being held in Israeli prison be released along with two German terrorists.
As a result of such deadly terrorist attacks by Palestinian teenagers, Israel has had to introduce legislation to deal with the problem. In August 2016, the Israeli parliament (Knesset) passed a bill allowing imprisonment of terrorists as young as 12.
Osama Bin Laden was born on March 10, 1957 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. His father was Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden, a rich owner of a construction business while his mother was named Hamida. Osama was the 17th son out of 54 total children. He was picked on by his brothers and nicknamed “Son of the Slave” because his mother was regarded as unobedient and reckless. Due to this he became a shy and timid boy. He was an excellent and intelligent student but unlike his brothers did not try to be noticed and only answered when called on. However the one subject where he so clearly rose above the rest was in Islamic religion. Osama longed to make a better connection and bond with his father but the only time he got that chance was when
He was then released from prison two years later in a prisoner swap. After he got out of prison, in 1987, he founded/created Hamas in 1987, during the Palestinian intifada. Hamas carried out civilian attacks and used suicide bombers to kill many of their victims. Ahmed Yassin said in an interview, that he can’t justify the killing of the innocent people, and he can feel pain when the innocent people are killed from the bombings, but he said the Israelis need to stop killing their people first, until the stop the suicide bombings. He also stated during the interview that, when the first blood it spilt from the suicide bomber, he goes into paradise, while all of the victims and the Jews go straight to hell. Then in 1989, he then again was charged for the ordering of killing an Israeli soldier, and as a result, Yassin was sentenced to prison for life. But then again in a deal arranged by King Hussein of Jordan, he was freed, in exchange for two Israeli agents who tried to kill a Hamas leader in Jordan. During his time in prison his image/ importance grew for the Palestinian people. He continued to spread the idea that peace is not an option, only unless the Israeli army stops killing Palestinian people first. He also continued to bomb many places arranged by Hamas, including one in December 2001, which killed 25
Zahar is apart of a resistance group, that think that syria has a bad relationship with them, but has really good relations with “humans”. He thinks “it's wrong to be confined by a particular experience.” Hamas (The group Zahar co-found) vision is to keep the islamic nation alert and active. There relationship is bad because alleged that the movement had allied itself with extremist militants fighting in Syria. This has changed both of them with their trust towards each other. Both syria and hamas say they will never trust one or the other ever again.Gaza ( a terrorist group ) in 2003 dropped an F-16 on Zahar house with his wife and kids in the house. One of his sons dies his wife, daughter, and Zahar got injured.2007, Hamas had taken complete control over Gaza, successfully beating down Fatah forces and compelling Abbas to relocate to the West Bank.Hamas quickly exerted control over the region’s infrastructure, helping run food banks,
HAMAS became active in both the citizenry and politics after the first intifada or uprising , against Israeli soldiers for control. The catalyst of which began after an Israeli struck and killed several Arabs in a car accident. (Lockman & Beinin, 1989) HAMAS began operating in the West Bank and Gaza in 1987 as the local political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB), which was an Islamic politico-social movement established as far back as 1928.

The Middle East hosted many conflicts over the past century but the Israel and Palestine conflict has become one of the biggest. Following independence from Great Britain in 1947, Arabic and Israeli people were both promised an independent states. Unfortunately, after breaking up Palestine into borders, Israelis and Palestinians have been fighting ever since. Now that Israel owns a majority of Palestine, Palestinians have been kicked out with no place to go. As Palestinians fight back for a chance to get their territory back, Israel’s use of superior military force takes down Palestinian forces with ease. The latest incident involved the killing of three Israeli teenagers by the Hamas, an Islamic militant group, that have done a majority of the fighting with the Israeli military. Israel have responded by using airstrikes in Gaza, where the killing took place. Some Psychological terms that lead to this conflict are actor observer’s difference, conformity, and mirror image perception.
This group was created in 1978 and continues to expand its power today. It began as a branch of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood. This terrorist group has several goals ranging from creating a Islamic state to continuing the armed struggle against Israeli occupation of Palestine territories. Their acts of
Both of these approaches would pave the way for Hamas’ seemingly bipolar tenure in Palestine. By the 1970’s, the Palestinian population was disillusioned by secularism, Westernization and materialism, and many looked toward the Muslim Brotherhood and the Islamic revival as an alternative . A drastic turn of events led to niche in Palestine that a more violent facet of the Muslim Brotherhood was willing to fill.
They were seen as the stronger military side by the rest of the world. The Arab states were left with little land or pride after the humiliation of the war. The PLO (Palestine Liberation Organisation) began to grow in size because the Palestinians were determined to fight for their homeland after this embarrassing defeat. Terrorism soon started to spread to Europe and other parts of the world like in 1972 when 9 Palestinians seized and killed 11 Israeli athletes at the Olympic Games.
The Arab-Israel conflict is a story which has taken place over a century. In order to understand the conflict between these two cultures their collective histories must be taken into consideration. It was a long and hard path for the Jewish population to get a piece of land they can call their own. A land free of religious persecution. I think that history has shown that these two states can not and will not be able to sustain peace over any period of time.
