America is viewed as the most advanced and developed country in the world. It owns some of the largest businesses and companies known to man. It is on top of every new technological advancement that has touched the Earth. It is the country that boasts of having the best and most efficient military in the world. The list goes on and on. And although a lot these claims made by America is true, none can doubt that this country has its fair share of flaws. A flaw in the American system is the lack of education many people receive. I am making this claim because the number of people I see in the street that are poor. These people don’t have access to quality education which prevents them from getting jobs. We need to teach kids to everyday skills and knowledge so that they will be better equipped to face real world challenges. This country focuses a little too much on standardized testing compared to the emphasis on the developmental growth of a child. Focusing on these curriculums will cater to any level of knowledge a child has. An example of this are CPR classes when a child is in high school. My high school made me take these classes. I can say that knowledge like this is very important for a child to learn. We shouldn't stick to the basics when it comes to education in our schools. It is a very important issue that none can just put away. It has been far too long that we’ve experienced social problems come to our faces and just accept it; not stopping it. I proposed that we should use less money on other institutions and use it towards the schools that don’t receive the funding they deserve. I highlighted specific statistics that have shown the imbalance in funding for schools and prisons. Prisons get nearly double and sometimes triple the more funding than K-12 schools get. This has to go. My second proposition is that we need to make college free. Free college would enable more people to get off the streets and start learning. They’d contribute to the society in which ever way they can. There’d be less homeless people, less people in jail, and create more politicians and scientists and inventors that would come into the society and help innovate the world. My third and final proposition would be to simply improve what these children are learning. We need to add additional curriculums that serve the purpose of teaching children how to perform everyday life skills and how to be great human
