Over the course of sixteen years the changing nation of the United States had a growing sense of national pride. The time that it was changing with national pride and identity started when the War of 1812 ended in 1814. It was in the United States, and started due to the United States being able to hold their own against the British proving that they are not a weak nation and the nation is strong. The Era of Good Feeling was started when the War of 1812 ended in 1814 and was when Americans began to feel better about their nation as they were being considered an actual nation. The next event that took place to end The Era of Good Feeling was The Age of Jackson, which meant that the United states was starting to come to a sense of reason about …show more content…
The first thing that Jackson went after being the bank, or economy. Many people liked the bank as it provided loans to businesses, and money management; people who liked the bank were Republicans, rich people, and businessmen. Just as how people like it, people also dislike the bank: Democrats, southerners, poor people, and westerners; their reasons were that the bank was unconstitutional, and it could restrict loans. Jackson was a democrat, so he was not a fan of the bank, therefore he did not like Nicholas Biddle who was the president of the bank. Eventually Nicholas Biddle decided to renew the banks’ charter early and Jackson decided to veto the bill as he did not like the bank and what it could do. People felt great about this and felt pride that Jackson would stop something unconstitutional and he won the next election with major support. The only problem with states’ rights was that Jackson did not like that John C. Calhoun is trying to tell states they could nullify any federal law they choose. Democrats, southerners and John C. Colhoun were for nullification as Calhoun did not like Jackson and wanted him to fail, and the southerners did not think it applied to them. Jackson, Republicans, and northerners were against nullification as Jackson agreed with it and then northerners found it applied to them. Since Jackson …show more content…
In the Era of Good Feelings, James Monroe did unconstitutional thing, held the government over the states, but, he made the United States take a larger role in the world powers; which made people ignore everything they did not support because of national pride. The Age of Jackson in which his values as an egalitarian had a positive effect on national pride, but a negative effect on equality between rich and poor. Finally, the end of the Age of Jackson lead to him, causing trouble with the bank ruining the economy, and enforcing tariffs so that the northerners would be pleased with his presidency even if he had to bargain the price of the tariff. The only thing that was good about the Age of Jackson and the Era of Good Feelings was that it made the United States stronger by giving it something to grow on as a nation, such as how the nation will learn to survive without the bank and it will let the northerners have more money to expand their industry to make it
All in all, the period after the War of 1812 may seem to be an "Era of Good Feelings" because of nationalism and westward expansion, but in fact it was not because of increasing sectionalism and state issues. As a result of winning the War of 1812 against Great Britain,
Andrew Jackson, seventh president of the United States of America, can be debated as either a good president or bad president. But if one were to weigh out the positives and negatives of Andrew Jackson’s presidency, one would realize that his positives outweigh his negatives for a variety of historic facts. Andrew Jackson was a good president because he represented the majority of America’s people by being a common, prevented a civil war when South Carolina threatened to secede from the nation, and because he technically found or instigated the two major parties used in America today (Democratic and Republican). Many Jackson oppositionists despise him because of he is a hypocrite, however America was founded on hypocrisy so as an
Historians have traditionally labeled the period after the War of 1812 the "Era of good feelings". Although Nationalism did exist between regions of the United States, this was just a façade. Underneath this so-called nationalism there was a great deal of regionalism also known as sectionalism. Due to this great amount of sectionalism, the different way of living, the beliefs of tariffs and slavery brought the country to divide.
The period after the War of 1812 during the presidency of James Monroe is often referred to as the “era of good feelings” because of a feeling of nationalism, a feeling of pride and national unity. The end of the Federalist Party also provided the nation with a feeling of nationalism, for there was no political opposition toward the Republicans. This title, however, may not be the most accurate label for this particular time period, for this time period marked the beginnings of sectionalism, with heated debates over tariffs, the National Bank, and most importantly, over slavery.
The “Era of Good Feelings” can also be exemplified with positive results. Our country’s Foreign affairs grew increasingly better during this time period. After the War of 1812, the United States adopted a more aggressive nationalistic approach in its relations with other nations. Americans were now proud to call themselves
Under President Monroe’s presidency, the War of 1812 broke out and was ended through the Treaty of Ghent in 1812. News of the end of the war didn’t reach America until 2 weeks later so the Battle of New Orleans occurred and it consisted of Andrew Jackson defending New Orleans because the British was intending to snatch the city and hopefully divide Louisiana from the US. Jackson's army would end up killing 2,000 British soldiers including the chief. Jackson’s army didn’t have many casualties as only 8 of his soldiers died. This victory caused Americans to be happy and proud since throughout the War of 1812 there was just disappointments occurring. This victory would therefore start the Era of Good Feelings as people would be proud and would show it through things such establishing the National flag with stars resembling the states and the stripes that would resemble the original 13 colonies.
To deem the period of American history between the years of 1815 and 1825 “The Era of Good Feelings” is highly disagreeable, due to the immense amount of sectionalism and sour feelings between many opposing groups. For instance northerners and southerners were fighting for majority control of Congress in order to dictate slavery laws. Then there was a lot of disdain towards the Nation Government evidenced by occurrences such as the Panic of 1819 where open government opposition abound in the Union. There was so much negativity towards the Federal Government that it was difficult to find solid examples of nationalism, whereas,it was more common for people to feel more tied to the ideals of their own area.As a result, people felt less inclined
“The Era of Good Feeling” was a time of increased nationalism and prosperity for the nation. This of course is not completely true, debates over many important issues created a crack in the outward appearance of harmony during President Monroe’s two terms. These issues include sectionalism, foreign policy of isolationism and the rights of states vs. the rights of the federal government.
In addition to creating a more democratic country, Jackson also tried to establish equal economic opportunity for the people of America. The best example of this is the vetoing of the charter of the Bank of the United States. The bank was a huge monopoly. It was ran by aristocrats, most of which were from England. Nicholas Biddle, who was the president of the bank, often used funds from the bank to lend money to the members of Congress, thus wining their support.

Andrew Jackson, whose presidential term lasted from 1829-1837, was the first president to ever be chosen by the people to lead. Because he was not born into a rich family, people felt that they could relate to him better. He too preferred supporting the common public over the wealthy aristocrats. During Jackson’s period in office he was able to shift the majority of power in the United States to farmers and small businesses in the western part of the country. Jackson vetoed many bills in order to benefit common people and also created the spoils system to balance out his cabinet. Like Jefferson, Jackson was extremely opposed to the Bank of the U.S., believing that it would only make the wealthy even
Jackson resented banks because he was a man who came from a family of poor farmers who paid with goods and crops. He saw banks as only useful to the wealthy, so when Henry Clay proposed “The Bank Bill”, which was in favor of the recharter, Jackson vetoed it. Andrew Jackson only thought about himself, and people who were like him, poor farmers. In total, vetoed twelve bills during his presidency, which was more than all of the preceding presidents combined. Again, Jackson set his mind to do something, and it was done.
No man at any point had so intense an effect on the psyches and spirits of his peers as did Andrew Jackson. No other man at any point ruled an age traversing such a variety of decades. Nobody, not Washington, Jefferson, of Franklin, at any point, held the American individuals in such aggregate accommodation.
Era of Good Feeling (1817-1825) describes the early presidency of James Monroe, the 5th President of the US, who acquired Florida from Spain and declared Monroe Doctrine to keep foreign powers out. This was a period in American history that started right after the War of 1812. It was a period of strong nationalism, economy properous, territorial expansion, fewer partisan conflicts, new inventions, transportation improvements,National Bank was accepted and protective tariff. Many parts of America were strengthened during this era. However, there were a number of tensions developing in the US with a rising of major issue over slavery. The US after the War of 1812 was setted into a period of rule by one party ( the Democratic- Republicans of
The Era of Good Feelings was a period in which the United States contained very little political tension and a lot of national pride. After the collapse of the federalist party, there was a lot of political unity amongst the country. The name is kind of ironic because there was still a lot of issues that weren’t resolved, especially between the different sections of the United States. What people didn’t see coming was the issue of slavery which came to the forefront of American politics when the Missouri Compromise was passed in 1820. This brought discontent among the North and the South. Each section wanted Missouri as their own, either a slave state (south) or free state (north). After the Missouri compromise stated that all states north
