Third Journal English 111 has been a great course so far. I have been learning new material that will help me to improve my comprehensive English skills, such as speaking, reading and writing. In this course, we have covered many topics that usually are not presented or introduced to students in younger agers. Sexual harassment is one of the sensitive topics that we have discussed in details. I personally did not fully know what is the true definition of sexual harassment and what form of actions or phrases that we could say that would considered to be forms of sexual harassments or harassments in general. During lectures, we have looked cases of sexual harassments and how we can educate ourselves and be aware of this issue that our communities facing. Student were assigned to draw their thoughts and what they have …show more content…
Many students in this course were not aware of the importance of having an advisor. In fact, some students did not know their advisors, which leads to missing on many opportunities and advantages that NOVA, Alexandria or any college offers to its students. I personally find it one of the most important resources that students can use to follow the right track of their study career. Not just that, advisors help you to find scholarships or get involve in activities that the college offers for all students. One of the assignments that we did in this particular topic is that we are required to interview our advisors and ask them critical questions that we came up with during our lectures. I have already interviewed my advisor and I discovered a lot about what I need to do and what I can do during my college years here at NOVA, Alexandria. I also discovered what classes and required credits I need to be able to complete my A.A
During the first semester of English 1301, I have learned so much that before I hadn’t comprehended. This class has teached me to write what is my passion and explain my thoughts thoroughly. The classes I took before were mostly teaching the arts of writing essays in which the not much was learned. This class made an exception for me to challenge myself and try to succeed in becoming a better writer. I feel as I have learned more in these 16 weeks than have in the last two years of highschool english.
The leadership project in course EL-7235, Workforce and Economic Development consisted of identifying a problem, trend, issue or innovation related to the workforce and economic development that affects community colleges. The problem, trend, issue or innovation was to be discussed in detailed, connecting to theory, policy and or practice used in the community college setting to address the selected topic. In addition, conducting a comprehensive review of literature concerning the topic and enhancing the review of literature with field research at a community college were included. Moreover, a presentation of the problem, trend, issue, or innovation research combined with the theory, policy, or findings on how research dealt
Three goals that I have accomplish while being in ENGWR50. Being able to analyze assignments, and being able to address them. I have learned these lessons with the reading "Fixed Vs Growth Mindsets" and the FWA1 and FWA2. The workshops has also help me to understand how to revise an essay as well as understanding how to distinguish between facts in opinions. reading the articles " True Grit" and, " 100% Is Over Rated", writting the summaries on these articles has taught me how to analyze reading while being able to create strategies for addressing them. this class has help me to become a better writer. it has prepared me for ENGWR101 now I know what is expected of me when writing a college paper. This course will follow me to my next class
During the 2015-2016 school year, the Tiger Advanced English classroom consists of students divided into four classes of 24, 25, 25, and 26. There are 53 boys and 49 girls. All students are identified as gifted though each has unique learning needs. We have one legally blind student that has severely decreased hearing in one ear. One of our students uses an FM sound system and another is diagnosed with a visual processing disorder. Eight students have health needs associated allergies/asthma. One has experienced traumatic brain injury and two others have weak immune disorders. And finally, one diabetic student.
A question frequently heard among students, from elementary to college, is “when will I need to know this?”. No matter the class, there is always someone who believes the course does not pertain to them and is a waste of time and money. Myself, I remember thinking that very same thing of AP Calculus and later Statistics. As someone aspiring for a career in the health sciences, I assumed that a comprehensive education in the various math forms was superfluous. And though I love history, English, and art, I caught myself wondering if I would ever utilize such knowledge beyond that class. What I have realized, however, is that all knowledge gained by an individual can only work to their advantage. Furthermore, I believe that liberal arts courses
Pie charts 1 and 2 show the difference in our source choices prior to taking Composition I in college and during Project 3. Before this course, we were more prone to using books and websites as opposed to databases. For project 3, we mainly used databases as well as .org sources. This shows that we are using more objective, factual sources, while books usually have a bias or are trying to prove a point. Our sources for project 3 were also more diverse than those used before this class. For project three magazine articles and a gallup poll come into play. This is a hint that after taking this course we have expanded our view of what sources are helpful.
my understanding of themes and ideas such as gender, violence, and privacy and has advanced my sense of critical thinking. It has supplied me with the tools needed to analyze daunting texts which would have been seen as beyond my abilities. This class has enabled me to relate what is currently going on in our modern-day American society with what goes on in the various types of places described in the great works that we read. Over the course of this school year I have also learned some things about myself that I had never known before. This has led to a self-actualization that I would have never saw coming and has changed my views on life in ways I did not think possible.
Studying English 1301 has been both an interesting and learning experience. The lessons and practical work learned from the course have sharpened my skills in communicating, learning and analysis. The numerous passages and case studies we did have sharpened my critical thinking skills. The diverse literature I was exposed to has made me learn to appreciate different types of literature and to accept that everyone is unique and gifted in his or her own special way. I have been forced to be creative and authentic in the forms of writing I do. With the knowledge gained, I intend to be among the well-polished writers in the world today. This will be effected through the basic lessons I have received in outlining, brainstorming,
As a result, I had a good experience with a stretch english class. Even though I had difficulties with some of the assignments, I was able to gain more lessons from it. I gained more good friends and feedbacks from taking a stretch class. From my experience, I think stretch class is great if you need more time and help from the professor and the peers. If you are that person, I highly recommend taking a stretch class.
English 10 has been one bizarre adventure from formal writing, to poetry, and then to creative writing. In this course, I have learned that there’s room for improvement in everything I do. As a kid, I struggled with writing, as it was my second language, but this course has made me not dislike it as much anymore. Some of the strengths I have discovered is my planning and editing skills. I always plan ahead before I write so I know what I’m doing. My editing skills are also extremely strong because I often edit to a greater extent than needed. I know I have improved my vocabulary because as I edit I change the bland words in my essay. I still need to improve on my storytelling and my grammar. Sometimes I forget to insert commas and semicolons
The ideas and concepts of this philosophy course will help me to achieve my life goals and will help me to make decisions that will help me to achieve the desired career in my academic field. For example, it will help me to make decisions that involve deciding which facts to present people with and to answer their questions by giving them a logical answer that had arrive using critical thinking. Also, the concepts from this course will help me to make better decisions in my life because it will help me to decide if an option is either right or wrong and measure my choices. Another reason why this philosophy can help me in life is that it will help me to become a better person. For instances, the concepts will help me to find happiness within
I have always enjoyed English classes during my years in middle and high school, and throughout college I have taken a good number of them by choice. Even so, American Literature Post Civil War has taught me much more than I was expecting. I was required to read things I would not normally read and to interpret them in ways I hadn’t expected. It was, in some ways, more educational than my previous required English courses. There were a few specific instances where I learned aspects of writing and literature that were very impactful to my college and life experience, such as proper formatting for body paragraphs and their subsequent quotes, certain words that carried allusions to other texts when in literature,
Writing in general takes roughly around 5 hours of my day. Texting takes up most of the 5 or so hours. Web browsing, and school is the other percentages of my writing time.
I think that semester one went pretty well for me. I did all of my homework, and turned most of it on time. One of the things that I regret about the first semester was not studying enough for tests. I could have gotten a better grade in my algebra class if I had just studied more for the semester test, and payed more attention in class those last weeks. I probably could have done better on my English semester test too. I got a high B on it, but it would have been nice to get an A. All of my other classes I was very proud of myself, and how I did.
I’ve learned a lot of useful tips from this semester in ENG 201. English has never been my strong suit nor has it been my favorite class. However this college course has changed my point of view of the subject. Prior coming into college I viewed English as a useless class because I’ve already knew the basics: how to talk, read and write essays. Today I view English as an important class. It helped me in other courses that involved writing, such as World Civilization and Communications, because it allowed me to practice my skills. In my world civilization exams I had to write essays. This course helped me write an impactful essay. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that almost all of my exam scores were in the 90s, usually I do poorly in the
