I believe that the driving while texting should be not only treated as not only reckless driving, but also as an addiction. Yes, I said addiction, because the matter just gets worst when driving while texting, but even the idea of not being aware of your surroundings can be just as hazardous as one is driving while texting. Only difference is that a person operating a vehicle presents danger to the road and other people and a person even walking while texting also puts one’s self in danger in public places. In Japanese news paper Japan today an article was published on may, 2014. This article pointed out the problem of cell phone addiction, and how not only the drivers, but also the pedestrians are also getting hurt by running in to poles

“Text messaging … had the longest duration of eyes-off-road time of 4.6 seconds at a six second interval. This equates to a driver traveling the length of a football field at 55 miles per hour without looking at the roadway.” This statement was made by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute when they did a texting while driving study (“Skip Menu”). Texting while driving has become a large problem in the United States and it is growing. There are about 1,600,000 accidents per year as a result of texting while driving. Texting while driving has become a bigger problem for teenagers than drinking while intoxicated. In an article Delthia Ricks wrote for Newsday, she says:
During 2012-2015, more than 13,000 traffic deaths nationwide were due to distracted driving. It is believed that distracted drivers are 23 times more likely to get into a traffic accident as compared to those who are completely focused on the road.

In this age of multitasking, the use of cell phones is combined with assignments like cooking, driving, babysitting, walking, doing college assignments and even eating. Whereas the use of cell phones while doing some chores might be simply annoying, the consequence of using cell phone with driving can be fatal. Recent polls by the Pew Research Center and other researchers show that about fifty to ninety percent young Americans admit using their cell phone while driving. This includes about thirty six percent who said they texted or typed something whiles driving. (Lopresti-Goodman, Rivera, & Dressel, 2012). The practice of using phone particularly texting while driving has increased the number of distracted driving accidents. When the cell phone records of people involved

Since the beginning of the smart phone era, humanity has come to build relationships with not only people, but their electronic devices. From talking on their phones and exploring apps, to texting while driving, people cannot seem to put down their smart-devices. According to the passage Introduction to Cell Phones and Driving: At Issue, the average amount of texts people send daily runs from around 40 – 110 (2015). It may not seem like the highest number, but knowing that more than half of those messages are sent while driving makes the matter of texting a lot worse. At this point in time, there have been laws prohibiting texting and driving as well as talking on the phone. Yet, to this day, those laws are null and void; regardless, the talking and texting while driving never stops. Although this phenomenon happens daily and causes many minor and major accidents, the probability of seizing this behavior is little to none.
Texting while driving is more dangerous than driving under the influence because of the time it takes to look at the phone. Taking your eye of the road for seconds can lead to a crash, “The driver who killed her mother was a sober, churchgoing 20-year-old who'd never even had a speeding ticket. He had been on the phone for less than a minute” (Hanes). This shows that texting while driving is more dangerous and has a higher chance of crashing then driving while intoxicated. Texting and driving looks less dangerous but in reality it is even more dangerous because of the distraction of texting. Some people think that drunk driving is more dangerous but just taking your eyes of the road for one second can lead to incidents. There are many car crash
The product that the yellow group created was presented by our team member Dorothy who is a product that could save a life. The idea is to stop people from using their phone while driving. By this how many of us have an application on our phones that lock the usage while driving? I found this to be very unsafely because even though the phone is lock you can still access your phone by answering calls. Now, the problem is that becomes a distraction trying to unlock the phone. According to Snyder, 1.6 million crashes happened due to the phone use while driving (2016). The innovated product is cell phones that automatically will shut off when the car is on drive mode. No more distraction on trying to unlock, text, call because it will only function to make a 911 call with a click of a button.
the problem is that there is some texters who text while they are driving. Let’s be real here people who text and drive are honestly putting theirs and other lives in risk. The risky part about driving and texting is that most people can’t multitask the two together, so people are either paying attention to the road or, which is most likely, the phone. One time I remember my family and I were going to central Philadelphia, and in the highway someone in front of us was going right and left, we thought that he was drunk or on something, but when we passed the car, a young teenage boy was texting. This example provided me how risky driving and texting on the phone is, what if he either turns too much right or left and hits a car, or worse a pedestrian. Also when texting people we use one hand to text and the other to drive, however what if a really sharp turn pops up. The scary thing about it is that I have seen people text in two hands while driving which was basically wishing for their own death. Overall, the people who text and drive could really be putting themselves in danger because one, they are not paying attention and two, they are driving with only one hand and for some no

Nowadays, cell phones even come with all kinds of games and other fun applications that help to relieve boredom and occupy the time of the beholders. This is great and all, but what happens when these individuals are abusing these phones and using them while they are driving? Sending text messages distracts the drivers
Texting while driving is a very dangerous habit that can endanger other people that are around you, even if there walking on the sidewalk or in a automobile encompassed by metal, and aluminum. Now I’m going to prove how texting while driving can be extremely lethal. First, Texting while driving has been proven that it is 6 times more likely to get you into a car crash, than drunk driving. An American driver drives at and average speed of 55 mph. It takes at least 5 seconds to look down at your phone and look at a text and look back up. That means going 55 mph without looking on the road is going the length of a football field. Next, you could hit wildlife. Yes, you could just drive away and act like nothing happened. Chances are though
Is texting while driving dangerous? Texting while driving might be common in the United States. However, it is illegal in most states since this situation is really dangerous for the driver and the passengers. “Driving a vehicle while texting is six times more dangerous than driving while intoxicated, depending on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration”(NHTSA). To put it another way, I totally concur with them. Driving a car while texting is extremely dangerous from the time when the driver uses at least four to six seconds on the phone to text and then sends the messages, he takes his eyes off the road for a split second and that can be a reason for an accident.
