The Delta Group is a local organization within the Central Texas District designed for member of the community who suffer from alcohol and drug addiction. This non-profitable program is known as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Alcoholic Anonymous is an autonomous organization. There are no state funds allocated for this organization; therefore, all monetary funds are donated and collected mainly from those that attend these meeting. These meetings are not held by professionals such as the following: doctors, therapist, or mandate court officials. Within the group, members base their foundation on the 12 traditions and build their homes/lives on the 12 principles steps Step three was frequently used within each meeting I attend and it states, “made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God, as we understood Him” (Alcoholics Anonymous, 2004). These statements are believed that a person must be willing and able to live their lives according to God's plan. Snuggled in a less desirable neighborhood, the old run-down white house was home to a life-changing organization designed for addicts to assist other addicts to overcome drug and alcohol addiction. While attending the Delta Group, there major challenge was not the combing of different personalities; in actuality, this was there strongest asset because they respect and feed-off one others differences. The primary lack of an professional and certified group leader/facilitator was the biggest challenge. “The leader is the primary orchestrator of change within a group (Jacob et al, 2012, p. 342).” I solely believe that this AA group will not transition out the middle/working stage leaving member to get the help the desire and need to live a live of sobriety. Many members have stated that they have relasps several times; however, they return to the group. In my belief members will continue this cycle because there is no growth or transition within the stage of the group. Delta Group is a great organization but a certified professional is need to be successful. The leader must draw members out or cut-off members as they because overly talkative.
