Rat infestations have swarmed throughout the world, looking for food, and spreading diseases, so of course people attempt to get rid of them. First off, they spread disease. It states in Source 1, “Around 60% of the rodents carry Weil's disease...” This quote states that the majority of all rodents, have Weil’s disease. That means that if you see a rat, it is probably infected with disease. This is incredibly dangerous for people walking the street, or someone without a home. That person who does not have a home, could get a disease very easily. The rats can carry disease and they can spread that disease, it even states in Source 4, “It was this rat which ushered in the Black Plague.” In this piece, they are speaking of Black Rats. These rats were probably one of the unlucky 60%, or it was a carrier something that was on them. …show more content…
One outcome could was the crop failures. It states in Source 2, “...when the rats come, some people simply do not bother planting crops.” This means that the people have seen this before, and no matter what they do, the only ones that will be eating their crops, would be the rats. Instead of wasting money and time with the crops that they would plant, they just don’t do it at all. In Source 3, there is a quote that supports this idea, such as, “Bauer said she has received reports of rats chewing on wiring in and around homes, as well as in cars parked both outdoors and inside garages.” This is incredibly dangerous because if a rat chews through a wire in your house, it just doesn’t turn off the television, it also could start a fire! Next thing you know, you go to work, come home, and see your house aflame! And its reason is probably not going to involve a stove being left
There are many misconceptions about rats. People think that rats are unclean and carry disease. In fact, rats are quite clean and groom themselves several times a day. These aren't sewer rats we're talking about. These pet rats, or fancy rats as they're called, have been domesticated and bred in captivity for at least 150 years. Pet rats are quite tame after living with humans for so many generations and you'll find that they are nothing like their stereotypes.
The black rat originated in Asia in the Mongolian Empire. They were wild borrowing animals who hosted the microorganism Yersinia pestis, which was natural disease in the wild borrowing animal’s population. Humans and these animals did not cross paths until the development of roads crossing through the domain of the rats. Following the onset of the leprosy scare throughout Europe, another deadlier infection was about to change their perspective on life and the world. The Church held the most power over the monarchs and peasant people life, alike, during the leprosy endemic, but at the start of a new infection they would lose their power vary rapidly as it came to be. Just as the Church lost it power and influence different churches emerged from the plague as did other lasting societal impacts. The plague ravaged through Europe and destroyed their current way of life and inflicting societal changes that are still present today.
Quite a bit of Ratched's character is apparent in her name. McMurphy professes it "Rodent shed" amid an early area of the novel, demonstrating that she has rat like characteristics of working unobtrusively, rapidly, and to the disservice of her casualties. The peruser is reminded that rats were the bearers of the Black Plague amid the Middle Ages, and Ratched taints the healing facility's orderlies, understudy attendants, advertising work force, and patients with her unreasonable longing for request.
Since rats are considered a hazard, the government has invested in programs that deal with the extermination of rats. In the article, "New York City Declares War on Rats," it emphasizes that, " Ryders Alley Trencher-fed Society or R.A.T.S- regularly prowls some of the city's rattiest areas, using their dogs to chase down and kill the rodents," With the assistance of dogs, it easier to detect rats due to ability that dogs have by sniffing. These specific programs have two purposes,to alleviates the lives of homeowners and clean New York City. However, due to these type of programs that governement supplements give rise to those who defend rats. As a result it exists two types of perspective those who kill and those who protect. Nevertheless, the only things that matters is that animals enjoy life by having a peaceful relationship with

The bubonic plague was the main contender of the Black Death (Byrne 15-16) which was primarily spread through the bacteria Yersinia pestis found in the stomach (Corbishley 47) of the Xenopsylla cheopis, a common flea (Byrne 197). The flea would then feed on a host’s blood, and regurgitate the bacteria into the host, causing the victim to become infected the bubonic plague (Nox). The Rattus rattus, or black rat, is considered to have helped the spread of the Black Death by carrying the fleas that carried the bacteria causing bubonic plague (Byrne 196).
Rats were the cause of a disease called ‘The black death’ also known as the bubonic plague, this disease killed over 1,500,000 people in England, this shows that they were a major issue due to the infectious diseases they carried (killing many people). It was also stated that even gravediggers died as for this infection. A reason that this was a big concern was because during the 14rh century, people didn’t have good medical knowledge meaning that people with the disease were most likely going to die. Another dispute caused by the rats is that if people caught the virus, they’d be badly infected meaning that they couldn’t go to work or any job which leads to no income
Contrary to what the cartoons portray them to be, mice can be dangerous even deadly if they infest our household. House mice, more than field mice, are scavengers and can be carriers of so many disease. The black plague that hit Europe and decimated thousands and thousands of people throughout that continent was caused by mice feces contaminating the food and water system. This also lead to new thinking about sanitation systems, most of which are still being used today. Mice and rats may seem harmless but they are not.
Rats are dangerous because it carries fleas and ticks with them to your residence. The rats could come from sewers or trashcans and carry those particles and germs to your clean home. The ticks and fleas carry additional diseases to the diseases rats carry. Along with small rodents nestled in a rat's fur, rats destroy a home through scratching and gnarling walls, wires, plumbing, and insulation with their teeth and feet. Pet food and human food become unsanitary due to contamination.
Furthermore, rat infestations are also an outbreak of rats in a place in which people live that can be harmful to the people and the people's residence. A man named John Davison stated in the article, “Floods see Rat Population Explosion”, that, “Around 60% of rodents carry Weil’s disease… which causes flu like symptoms, or in more serious cases, heart and kidney failure.” In some cases, rat infestations can be when rats damage and penetrate the residents of a home. The article, “Top 10 Fascinating Facts About Rats”, says that it is virtually impossible to fully “rat-proof” one’s home because rats teeth are harder than both iron and steel making it possible for them to chew through wood and even cinderblock! As a result they can penetrate homes with ease although, once they are in, it is extremely difficult to get them out. In essence, rat infestations are when rats invade and penetrate an area or residence inhabited by humans and spread disease and damage the structure with their
Rats are the definition of all terror. There are two well known species of rat, the Norway and the Black rats. “Brown or Norway rats originated from China and plague places such as New York and London,” according to the article “Rats 10 interesting facts”. Rats can spread many diseases mainly into populous countries. Rats are the source of many diseases. Some examples are rat-bite fever, and can spread many diseases such as leptospirosis, Lymphocytic choriomeningitis, Salmonellosis,Cutaneous Leishmaniasis, Hantavirus, and the historical Black Plague, according to www.orkin.com.
To put it simply, rats have been in a negative light for centuries now. They have been blamed for the spread of diseases and have been targeted by many. Common misconception is that rats were the cause of the Black Plague which wiped out much of Europe’s population, but in fact the plague was transferred from
We wake up at the most randomest times usually really late at night, most men are exhausted but fully awake due to fear. All we see are lights flashing all around us and loud booming noises coming closer and closer to where we keep shelter. You could even see the pale faces of each inexperienced soldier in the pitch black night. Most times they are vomiting when they kill one the soldiers from the other side because they didn’t realize how truly horrible war is. When we cross no man’s land you have to keep your head up because of all the dead bodies and wounded soldiers we couldn’t save are there.
City rats are among the most important but least-studied wildlife in urban environments. The existence of rats, compounded by the rate of human urbanization and effects of climate change, frequently bring potentially infectious organisms into contact with people and other wildlife. Unfortunately, urban rat control is ineffective since so little is known about their ecology. The article highlights the importance of exploiting new research to better understand and manage the problem. The main issue is that there are multiple factors that limit the research of urban rats. Similarly, it is complicated to allow researchers to study behaviors and populations over time when majority of the rats are typically located in private areas such as homes
