Teaching higher order thinking skills is not a recent need. It is apparent that students, at all levels of education, are lagging in problem-solving and thinking skills. Fragmentation of thinking skills, however, may be the result of critical thinking courses and texts. Every course, especially in content subjects, students should be taught to think logically, analyze and compare, question and evaluate.

I attempted to teach my friend how to drive when I was 16. There were four of my friends in the car when the lesson began. The car was totaled. My friends were hurt, I was hurt. I felt horrible as a juvenile for being responsible for that accident. I have learned that you should never listen to what a group of people is saying to you; you should think for yourself. Groupthink is a terrible thing.

This paper is a summary of critical evaluation of the suitability of an article as an academic source. The title of the article is Critical Thinking: An Extended Definition. There is a lot of tragedy surrounding WV Steel Company lately. National Construction (our of Colorado) is building a new football stadium. The opt to buy and use cables that were approved by a contractor for WV Steel. After the stadium is built the upper deck collapses and injures and kills civilians watching the game. National is now under a lot of pressure from lawsuits stemming from the incident. To make matters worse Jessica crashes her car on the way to a meeting due to negligence when driving. She hits a school bus and the bus driver and some children on the bus end up being hospitalized.

What is Critical Thinking? Is the process of conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and /or evaluating information gathered by observation, experience, reflection, reasoning or communication, as a guide to belief and action (Scriven & Paul, n.d.). When one applies critical thinking more ideas are develop, fewer mistakes are made and better decisions are reached. When people instead of using critical thinking act on beliefs or without giving it a second thought, the end results are poor decisions and as a result have a disaster at hand. People don’t always use critical thinking, it is not uncommon to hear someone say such remarks after making the wrong decisions; “I just was not thinking”, “I did not think it was a big deal”,

Critical thinking is the art of thinking in a manner that is critical. This means that prior to making a decision one must be informed about possible repercussions and/or outcomes, this is particularly true in the case of both employers and an employees. A decision maker must be willing to “choose how to respond to opportunities and problems on the basis of a simplified and approximate account of the situation” (George & Jones, 2005, pg 475), while a stakeholder (in this case an employee) must be willing and able to complete any task that is put before him or her. The stakeholder must also make an informed decision based on their personal code of ethics.
