I turn my head as the chicken flaps, splashing soapy water all over me. By this point, the water is barely an annoyance, as my shirt has been soaked from the very first chicken I washed that afternoon. Once the chicken is calmer, I readjust my grasp on her, and dunk her into the rinse water, swishing her from side to side, before standing up and wrapping her in a towel to groom her nails. This is the scene the day before county fair. I spend the afternoon washing 15 chickens so that they are well groomed, softer, and more attractive to potential buyers. County fair is my own personal Black Friday. It is the week, after 31 weeks breaking even, that I begin making money with my egg and chicken business. The origins of my egg business can …show more content…
The next time my parents went to the grocery store, I tagged along, and studied the typical prices for normal eggs, for brown eggs (which are nutritionally exactly the same as white eggs and are only more sought after as healthy eggs because they look more like small farm eggs), and for organic eggs. By this point, I am smarter than Kindergarten me, and I know that chickens, like their eggs, come in all colors, not just yellow. The eggs I have for sale range from pure white eggs, to speckled brown, to earthy green. I box up my first colorful dozen, walk two houses down the street, knock on the door, and ask my neighbor if he wants to buy eggs. I return to the house with $3, and my egg business is …show more content…
A family with two young girls come in, interested in buying some hens. I show them around the small animal barn, pointing out my chickens that are for sale. “This is a Leghorn. They are great layers and lay huge white eggs, like the kind that you get at the grocery store. This is an Americana. They lay green, blue, or pink eggs. And this is my Cochin. She’s my sweetest chicken.” I stop at this cage and pull the fluffy chicken out so that the girls can pet her. One girl reaches out and touches her back, before hiding behind her father’s leg again. The other strokes her a few times and comments on the
Present day Bastrop County was formed from one of the oldest colonies in early Texas, and named for the man who influenced the Spanish governor to grant Moses Austin permission to start his colony in Texas. As the good, old story goes, in 1820 Moses Austin traveled to San Antonio seeking permission from the governor to lead Anglo settlers to Texas; however, permission was denied. At that point the Baron de Bastrop, who had developed influence with the government, interceded for Austin, who at last received permission in 1821, to lead three hundred Anglo settlers to Texas. Moses died before he could carry out his plans, and it passed to his son, Stephen F. Austin, to develop his father's
Shelby County was one of the original thirteen counties in Texas, being organized by the Republic of Texas Congress in 1837. The county was named for Isaac Shelby, an American military hero and Governor of Kentucky. Shelby County eventually became one of the most populous and prosperous counties in the state because of its proximity to Louisiana and location along the Sabine River. Nashville, one of the earliest settlements in the state, was renamed Shelbyville and became the new county
When growing up as a child, children are typically taught their home address, the city where they are from, and the county that they live in. It is important for children to know these things for various safety reasons. The importance of this importance spreads to various ways of life. In the Summer of 1964, the Mississippi Summer Project, also known as Freedom Summer, was organized by several Civil Rights organizations such as the Student Nonviolent Coordination Committee and the Congress on Racial Equality. The event that caused the start of Freedom Summer were that many African-Americans were not registered to vote, this was because the southern states had implemented literacy tests that were unfair and could be interpreted differently, and Poll Taxes which were ridiculous amounts to pay ("Freedom Summer"). Other causes include the case of Plessy Vs. Ferguson, which stated the “Separate but Equal” clause, and also Racial segregation. Freedom Summer Volunteers included White Northerners, and the organization was made to focus on the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, Voter Registration, Freedom Schools, and Community Centers (“Timeline: Freedom Summer”). There was a need for the Freedom Summer because Many African-American People in the south were being oppressed by Literacy Tests and Poll Taxes.

Today marks the day where the state fair comes to town and they released a new ride called “Erikson’s ride”
Beginning your long day at the Iowa state fair starts with waiting in a 10+ minute line to purchase a ticket. Already sweating on the 80 degree day, you start your day walking into the fair wondering what place you are going to, what new food you are going to try, and what new things you will see and experience. You first see the busy crowds and the thousands of people of walking with their family or waiting in lines to get the new fried food, Personally my favorite thing to do at the fair is walk around with my friends and basically whatever happens happens, and when you get tired of walking all day choose a comfy spot to sit and people watch. We never have a set thing we need to do and doing it in the moment makes it better.
There was a hush over the Colorado River Fairgrounds, as every American under the stars in Blythe gazed into the sparkly, lit sky at the annual fireworks show on the Fourth of July.
The recent comments made by former Indigenous Australian boxer Anthony Mundine and soprano performer Deborah Cheetham, have sparked a controversial debate regarding the place of “Advance Australia Fair” in modern day Australia. At the centre of this disagreement, there lies a much more serious issue concerning Indigenous Australians and the timing in which the national anthem was introduced in regards to the Stolen Generation. Is it time to change, to mend and assist with reconciliation?

Itʻs a sunny Thursday afternoon at Whittier Narrows Regional Park, where a group of friends are enjoying a nice hot lunch of macaroni and cheese together. For most of them, this is the first meal they have eaten in days.
Because of the way these chickens a raised and treated, there is no way it can be healthy eating the chickens, or the eggs. The chickens that you eat are pumped full chemicals so they are bigger and fatter but it is obviously not natural for anything to eat these chickens. Plus, it is terribly cruel the way the chickens are handled and “cared for”. I know that most people
One beautiful Saturday morning, I woke excited about going to Delaware County Fair as if I was the same age as my young daughter. The day was looking beautiful, as the weather was like a typical fall morning. The breeze I could hear through the window; I felt like this was the perfect day to go to the fair. I opened the door of my daughter’s room to wake them up; I turned on the lights and yelled “It’s morning.” My oldest daughter looked at me with one eye half way open and said “It is not morning.” The sky was still dark as it was a cloudy morning. I told her “We have to go to the fair early so we can stay there all day.” They both jump on me giving me hangs and kisses, as this was the first time they went a fair.
