Congress's Beliefs

Congress is not doing their job, and the Americans of United States are disapproving on how Congress is proceeding to do their duties. Theoretically, this is not really a new issue in Congress; they have had multiple fights and delays on bills throughout the years. An example would be the House of Representatives proposing fewer bills throughout this past decade. This is one of many issues that Congress had been doing behind the people of United States of America. While Congress members are slacking to do anything productive, we the “Americans” are slipping this situation right by our eyes. Congress needs to be situated and organized; and we the people, cannot afford any slackers in the Legislative Branch.

First, congress salaries are very heavily bashed on by the public. An average congress member attains a salary just shy of $100,000. Many members of congress start off making roughly $80,000-$90,000 annually. Therefore, an abundance of people argue that their salary is too high. Although they have a decent salary to sit on, they aren’t overly wealthy. In contrast, members may work their way up in power, yet don’t generate much of a raise other than a few thousand annually. Back when the constitution was being formed, many of our nation’s top builders predicted a president leading the USA. Granted the president description was extremely vague, we soon realized how powerful presidency and high powers truly are. After several presidencies and wars, among other awry events, we quickly discovered the roles and objectives of these political leaders. Furthermore, the role of presidency has been altered greatly over the course of time. The separation of power ultimately led to the creation of a two-party system. Lastly, the issue of re-election arises. Re-election rates have generated a fair amount of complaints among American’s. The idea of limiting terms for congress members has become a common thought. Lawmakers get elected and stay elected without working in the public’s interest. In Chapter 10, it says Congress is the least popular branch of government because people think Congress members “spend more time thinking about their own political futures than they do in passing legislation.” But, voters return members of Congress to their jobs when they have so little approval for them because a majority of voters think that their own representatives deserve reelection. If their own representatives can deal with local concerns or even personal problems, voters also think that they can deal with national issues. The first influence is representational view. Author James Wilson says “Representational view is the reasonable assumption that members want to get reelected, and therefore vote to please their constituents” (Wilson, pg.340). Representational view sounds a lot like trying to impress someone to get on their good graces or trying to please someone. When a congressman votes like this, it really gets in the way of what is important. Do they really care what is going on? It does not sound like it, according to James Wilson. When a congressman vote like this, Wilson mentions the example of gun control and that sometimes they get conflicting views and that whichever way they vote, it may cost them dearly in the next election. What is even more frustrating is that “occasionally, members of Congress in this situation will try to be out of town when the matter comes up for a vote” (Wilson, pg. 341). What is the point of being in Congress if you are not going to be around for the major decisions? Just along for the free ride I am assuming. All in all,

If I learned that most members of the U.S congress were in favor of eliminating our form of democratic government and in favor of making our current president the king of America, I would not be near. Having the current president as king would not help get everyone’s support. The current president does not have most of the latinos votes, so having someone like him as king will make everything worse. Currently today most salvadorans are against the president. Latinos as well are against the president for removing DACA. For example in order to be king the president needs to be noble, kind,and honest and the current president does not meet the requirements.

According to a recent poll that was taken in 2014, there was a list of certain important aspects of the U.S community and government to get the peoples opinion on what citizens thought of them. The list had a wide variety of entities from the U.S military and small businesses to Newspapers. Every participant of the poll was given the list and was asked to choose the ones you had quite a lot and/or great deal of confidence in; however, congress was given the least amount of votes out of every other option on the list with 5% on both great deal and quite a lot. I'm going to give a sense of the perspective on how insignificant those numbers are, because the military was the highest voted with 43% great deal of confidence with 33% great deal of confidence. But there is a good reason for the distrust for congress, because of their bias nature and partisan conduct when it comes to controversial problems, and just overall acting like children.

In this editorial, Michael Dobie expresses his stance on our modern day Congress. The main issue that he has with it is that Congress is unable to complete anything at all. He believes that so many of our issues, such as the Zika virus, gun control, our national spending, aren’t being acted on because both parties of Congress are unwilling to work together to develop a strategy to any of these issues. He also shares the statistic that 83% of Americans are not satisfied with the way that Congress is currently functioning. In short, Dobie concludes that Congress, as a group, does not perform their duties as they should be and due to that, are unable to find solutions to our major problems, which we are currently dealing with.

Congress has the most important role in American government. It is the main voice for the people. Congress members take the criticism and everyone's request to try to better themselves and the community. Members serve each and everyone of their constituents, the people that elected them become their districts. It is the member's duty to gratify their constituents if they want to stay in office, and every issue must be considered from the perspective of those constituents. These representatives do a lot more than just pass laws in a capital. Representatives help constituents in a number of ways. They can help by negotiating the complicated process of applying for a passport. They can help act as an advocate to help the people get any types of

“Coat-tail” election -. This is when the president’s races coincides with the elections that are being run in congress, and the party that the president belongs too will more than likely gain more seats in Congress because the new president that was just elected was also a member of that party. The president-elect was elected because he has shared his vision for the direction that he wants the country to go in, which in turn makes the people that voted for his party for president also vote for the same party congressman. For example, president-elect trump won the white house he is a republican, because of this the house and the senate are now in the majority by republicans.

As a teenager, I served as a page in the Virginia House of Delegates and became interested in the politics of the Commonwealth. Motivated by my childhood experience, I took a job as a Staff Assistant in the Virginia Senate in the 2016 session. During my time in the Senate, I noticed politicians pledged to their constituents they planned to vote in their interests, only to vote the opposite way on the Senate floor. A representative should not deceive their voters, nor vote in accordance to the largest donor. A representative only holds that seat because of the electorate and therefore must vote in the interests of their constituents.

In order for something to be broken it must have been whole to begin with, let us first discuss what Congress used to represent and how it used to function. Most everyone knows that Congress is bicameral and consists of two parts: The House of Representatives and The Senate. Congress’s powers are outlined in Article I of the Constitution. The framers formed two parts of Congress so that they would balance each other out: no one branch would become too powerful and the laws would be more complex and well-thought.The Constitution had initially intended for the legislative branch (Congress) to be the most powerful branch of government and at the beginning of post-constitution United States history it was. Congress was given the powers to enact laws (Gateways to Democracy, pp. 388).The Framers were purposeful in making sure that Congress represented each individual state by allowing each state to have two senators and for the number of representatives to be dependent on the size of each state, thereby balancing out the powers each state had in Congress (Gateways to Democracy, pp. 389).

I believe that congress has the most power according to the constitution. I belive this because congress has alot more power than the president, and the people. I also belive that all the branches of congress are equal and that one has equal power to all. The legislative branch makes laws, the judical branch settles dissagreements, the excutive branch, the presidents makes laws that they pass. In my opinion they have all equal powers.

After forming the committees and setting a number of them up, there are responsibilities that need to be carried out. The responsibilities get the process going to get the House of Representatives to function and maintain balance. The responsibilities of each legislative committee should request written comments from relevant executive agencies and then hearings are held to gather additional information and views from non-committee experts. The process continues as the committee works to perfect the measure by amending the bill or resolution. Once the language is agreed on, the committee sends it back to Senate, including the report on the measure and the purpose of it with it.
