Characteristics of a Successful Online Learner
Furthering our education is proving to be more and more on demand, ever since the crash of the economy and a rising number of job losses in the United States. We find that going back to school to higher educate ourselves will result in a better resume and experience to finding a career that works for us and our families. Some online learners will probably feel that online learning just isn’t right for them, due to not enough communication with our instructors, or online courses becoming more challenging than being in an actual classroom. Maybe some students think there is no time in their busy schedules for school, making them feel like it is nearly impossible to pursue any kind of

We are all different, but the one thing we have in common is this class and that is what brings us all together. God is my motivation; He is my strength. I enjoy learning online and discovering new things, knowing that I am gaining more and more knowledge for Him. The online educational environment is increasingly being used by students and should be designed based on the needs of online learners. According to Felder (1996),”learning styles are characteristic strengths and preferences in the way [learners] take in and process information.” We are the next generation of student online learners so we should put everything we learn online into our daily agendas in everyday life. Helpful and Encouraging Scriptures: * Ecclesiastes 7:12 “For the protection of wisdom is like the protection of money, and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it.”
* Proverbs 18:15 “An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.”
* ProverCharacteristics of a Successful Online Learnerbs 1:7 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

In order to unravel college students’ desperation of choosing whether they should enroll in an online course, Content Marketing Specialist of Collegis Education, Kristina Ericksen, has devoted experience from taking online courses to produce and provide a solution for any student. Her written article for Rasmussen College, “What I Wish Someone Told Me BEFORE Taking Online Classes,” exploits the hidden challenges and the usual shortcomings that bears in the name of online learning, such as there are certain learning styles that are not meant for staring at a computer screen, so according to Ericksen, “an advantage to one student may be a disadvantage to another.” While learning styles is only one of her subtopics in the article,
First let us look at what the Old Testament has to say about wisdom. The book of Job says that wisdom can not be found on land or in the sea. It can
This quote from Elaine Heath and Larry Duggins' book "Missional.Monastic.Mainline." mentioned what I thought of as the quintessential definition of wisdom. Through effort and sacrifice, one can attain pearls of wisdom such as freedom can't be bought cheap, it's better to die with knowledge than to live in ignorance, and ignorance is bliss only for those whose minds are vacant of the veracity of facts.
A proverb (Hebrew marshal) is a short poetic sentence conveying wisdom in a concise and memorable form. (p.259) Solomon the writer of proverbs, was told by God” he could ask for anything he wanted and God would give it to him. Solomon asked for wisdom to lead the people, so they would know the difference between right and wrong.”(1Kings 3:5-9 paraphrased) According to Hindson and Yates “Hebrew wisdom literature taught people not only how to make good choice s in life but how to make godly choices.” (p.259) Proverbs shows many parallels and contrasts, usually in a two sentence form. In this essay we will look at the teachings of Hebrew wisdom on diligence and laziness, and how it corresponds with the contrast between wisdom and folly.
"All of it is clear to a person who has understanding and right to those who have acquired knowledge." (Proverbs 8:6-9)
Proverbs 2:6-8, "It is the Lord who gives wisdom; from him come knowledge and understanding. He provides help and protection for righteous, honest men. He protects those who treat others fairly, and guards those who are devoted to him."
Aristotle sustains that wisdom consists in knowing the cause which made a material thing to be what it is. For Aristotle, wise people know more than just what something
The bible says in “Proverbs 1: 5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels.” So let us not walk in foolishness and seek God’s wisdom in everything that we do because it says this as well about a fool in “ Proverbs 1: 22 How long ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? And the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge. So let us chose wisdom and not folly and trust God.
Wisdom is seen as the position of the experience gathered over time and is used by the elderly to recount the past and tell stories, while giving advice to the younger generations (Berk, 2014). When these younger generations listen to the practical knowledge that is being given by this older generation and they learn about others’ lives, they hear it as wisdom. A wise old or is said to possess these traits. With that in mind, it is important for wise elders to maintain this history of knowledge, but build upon it as well.
Returning to school as a non-traditional student has included a lot of challenges. Online classes have presented the most challenges. I have not enjoyed any of the online classes I have taken because I struggle with computer technology. This questionnaire reinforced the changes that I knew I would need to make in order to succeed in an online learning environment.
Literary Context: Proverbs 3:1-12, Wisdom is the most valuable thing you will process so hold on to it tightly.
Upon embarking on new pathways of understanding and learning, it is very important that I maintain the strength of faith and trust that this is exactly what and where God has designed for me to be. Perspective and experience play a big part of this because as an online student there are certain areas of uncomfortability and uncertainty that are faced such as the total dependence on technology and being completely in control of the speed at which the information is absorbed. While I have confidence and determination to put forth my best effort to succeed and achieve the ultimate goal of acquiring my academic aspirations, I realize that I still have personal distractions to discipline and manage.
I believe that wisdom is something that you gain from experience. Experience comes to you when you fail at some point in life. Think about this transitive property for a second. I know this because I have encountered a failure that changed me entirely. It transformed me in a way that massive success or any accomplishment could not ever have. It all started when I scored a D. Getting a low grade is not the worst thing that could happen to
Online education increases the likelihood of procrastinating, which reduces students’ learning effectiveness. When taking an online class, students have no time constraint for homework and exams. Because of no sense of urgency, students have a tendency to procrastinate. More specifically, they may read the materials and do the homework in very last minute, gradually influencing their learning performance in a negative way. As Smith explains, “there will never be the watchful eye…of a professor, nor the pressure of an exam time limit that is about to expire…” It seems that without a real instructor, there is no one to ask students to come to class on time, no one to remind them of handing in homework, no one to preach them to prepare the upcoming exam, and no one to require them to stay on the coursework. Does it sound good? Take me as an example. I used to take several online courses. Without instructors’ supervision, I often submitted my assignments at last minute and put off readings that were not covered in the assignments and exams. Before I realized it, weeks had gone by, I had not finished any assignment, and exam came. Due to the failure of completing reading and writing assignments during the learning process, I got poorer academic performance. Compared to students studying in the classroom, those online students like me may waste a larger part of study time and not access any of the course material until the day before the final. Thus, the effects of
We live in a technology driven society and high school students have the opportunity to partake in the online learning environment. There are several advantages in this type of learning atmosphere. Online schooling is beneficial for high school students because the students outshine in their studies beyond a traditional brick-and-mortar setting. Interaction between students and teachers, as well as academic performance is successful. The effect of student communications with content, peers, and instructors is positive, along with credit recovery for students who are behind.
