Through the duration of this course some of my opinions on civic issues have changed and some have stayed the same. An opinion of mine that has changed is the number of flaws in our education system. While taking this course I benefited from learning a variety of things about the American government, as well as refreshing my memory on somethings I already knew. What didn’t work for me was my time management skills. I am used to writing papers may be two days before the due date. This did not work so well for me because the most difficult part of the paper tended to be the last part. On one of my papers I could not finish the last section of the paper because I didn’t give myself enough time. Videos that were played in during were also very helpful in this course. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the movie called “Steel Magnolias” (1989) directed by Herbert Ross.

In this paper we will discuss the final stages of how a topic becomes a policy. The paper will discuss formulation, implementation, and the legislation stage. These stages must be done in this order to ensure the policy is being formed the correct way and not scattered around. This paper will also consist of the evaluation stage, analysis stage, and revision stage and describe the purpose and methodologies process for evaluating and revising a public policy.

The two priority problems for Mr. George are Hypertension and Diabetes (hyperglycemia). It has been demonstrated that arterial hypertension is major important determinant of heart diseases. The pathogenesis of hypertension is linked with multiple factors that include dietary, genetic, and patterns of lifestyle. The biological factors that determine hypertension include: atherosclerosis, resistance to insulin; hyper-responsiveness towards adrenalin based stimuli and dysfunction of endothelial cells. It was studied that the evidence suggests that decrease in the ratio of prevalence of high blood pressure gives rise to reduced ratio of cardiovascular related mortalities. It can be achieved through intervention with suitable medical therapy (Villalpando et al., 2010).

I choose to use my older sister,Chioma, for this assignment because I felt like she was the perfect candidate to explain what she does. When we first started the course I had very little knowledge about the United States Government. Now, I feel like I have learned a lot and amd able to hold a conversation with someone about our government and actually understand what they are saying and some of the terminology. My growing knowledge of the United States government has and will continue to impact my personal sense of what it means to be an United States citizen. Since I now understand things better I feel like it is easier for me to be more involved with our government since I am no longer as confused as I was before. How has this course influenced your daily habits, beliefs, and actions, i.e. your world-view? Understanding the political nature of terrorism has helped me to understand numerous different social issues. Understanding of terrorism is not irrational, but emerges from genuine political disagreement is incredibly helpful. By this same logic, I now understand that criticism of protest movements, like black lives matter; often miss .the underlying structural point that there is systemic discrimination. This does not justify burning cars or looting buildings, but these problems cannot really be solved with police crackdowns. Instead, they can be solve with a genuine attempt to understand where these people are coming from. Throughout times, democracy has emerged as the best political way to rule a country. Within democratic systems, citizens have to vote for people who will represent them in the decision-making system. The question that John Kingdon wanted to understand in his writing of How Do Issues Get on Public Agendas? is how the legislative process and the public policies are made. John Kingdon well illustrates the processes by which an issue becomes policy issue, named the Cohen-March-Olsen, and the coming together of three processes. In the Cohen-March-Olsen, Kingdon proposed three stream: problem-recognition, policy stream of proposals and political stream.
