The setting in the book “Backflash” is present day and takes place in a town called Lake Hills. This town is medium sized, hilly, and everyone that lives there is super close.
The main character is Lara. She had a hard time growing up overweight and depressed. Lara does not have a lot of confidence and tends to doubt herself a lot. The next main character that has an important role in Lara’s Life is her sister, Sydney. She is a protagonist because she helped support her sister even when times aren’t fair. Sydney is also brave, she is friends with Liam even though he is Bree’s brother. The next character is Bree, she is the reason why Lara tried to kill herself. Bree is the antagonist of the story, because she posted terrible things about

The first strength was building up the characters to where it felt like you knew them. “I suddenly understand what made Lara do it.” (Littman 46) Another great strength of hers was sequencing and it was every easy to understand. When if pasts time, she makes sure to have a page saying that which is very helpful to the reader. I only felt like there was one weakness which would have to be interest and having to do with building up the character. Sometimes I felt like the chapter was either super long or unneeded information and was pointless. One section just talks about her breakfast which didn’t help anything in the story. “Liam is eating a bowl of cereal. I get a bowl for my cereal...” (Littman 301) But, overall I think the book was great, I just don’t have a long attention span.
Overall I think this book is great! The vocabulary is very understandable for every teenager. The story seems so real and has a lot of relatable subjects that present day teenagers can understand. “Wonder if I should Instagram it? #Call911.” (Littman 47) The format of the book is understandable even though it does skip time, and also goes back in time. It is helpful though because on pages it says the date like “Part Two- Two months earlier.” (Littman 93) Overall, the book held my interest well and was a fast read whenever I got the time to sit
I really enjoyed the book because I love reading very interesting and right at the
For example, one weakness is that there is too much extra information. While reading the book, a reader will encounter well over a hundred named characters. Nobody needs or cares about the names of insignificant characters. Also, there is too much extra information about where the characters work and the story line. A reader could understand the book without all the extra “fluff” information.
Lastly, Amma is Camille’s half-sister who is a two-faced little girl. Camille, Adora, and Amma all have different perspectives on who the others are. Camille and Adora’s relationship is displayed to the audience by Flynn’s use of dialogue and point of view, while Adora and Amma's relationship is shown through the atmosphere and irony between there characters. Gillian Flynn uses literary devices and narrative techniques to expose each relationship to the audience. Camille
Some people may not recommend this novel because they believe it encourages readers to only worry about family rather than achieving their own personal goals. Some may also think this book over dramatizes the harshness of a teenagers life.
I feel that, this novel is a good read for teenagers, because by reading it they can learn to accept there differences and themselfs . In our world today, nobody likes to be different, in fact most people try to change themselves. In the novel, it talks about how Calvin became secofenic. At first when Calvin found out the news , he imedily says that his mental illness was is a death of being normal. In the end Calvin learns to accept himself, and I think that teenagers need to do the same because, in world full of normal people, we need people who stand can out and make a change.
It captured my attention from the beginning. I like how the Rand was descriptive words to help me have an image of what was happening in the novel. I like the story line. I like the idea of someone breaking way from everyone else and being different from others. That they are able to think for themselves and that it is ok to be different from others. I also liked how the novel had some romance because I do enjoy romance novels. The Language Police written by Diane Ravitch, I did not quit enjoy the book. I do not really like books like that. I do not recommend this book if you are not interested in how the bias panel chooses stories for children. I do recommend the novel, Anthem. It gives the reader a sense of individualism, there is a story behind
As the overall book, I actually kind of liked it because it was kind of hard to understand because they couldn’t use “I” and I like challenges. They had to use “We” instead of using “I” to explain they self or the story. The book was okay as a whole but still kind of hard to understand I got kind of irritated after a while, while I was reading the book because of the way it was written.
The first weakness is some of the actions that is in the book is not really truthful. For example, in chapter 10, Violet just used a simple invention and climbed up to the tall tower, the most difficult part is to hook to the tower, and I think the hook is not strong enough to carry a person. The second weakness is the story may not fit the readers that are above 25 years old because the book is too easy for them, they might feel boring when they are reading this book. In this book, everything seems perfect, however, I believe the book still have some parts that did not work really well in the book. For example, the way that Count Olaf escape is like action movie’s segment, I think it does not suit this book. The book could be done better at make the story more realistic because even though the story is not real, but the main idea of the novel is not science fiction or action fiction. Next, the novel did not explain some details such as why Count Olaf’s house has many eye drawing and why Count Olaf’s ankle have an eye
The first strength would be the overall layout of the book. Each chapter is devoted to a particular question. Mittelberg begins each chapter with either a story or something else that is relatable and then goes on to explain different pieces or perspectives of answers he has found from others, or simply from himself. At the end of each chapter Mittelberg gives a summary, provides tips for talking about the question to nonbelievers and then also provides some discussion questions to ask in a group setting. Another strength, which has been mentioned before, is how relatable everything is in this book.
There are several weaknesses that were presented during the entirety of the novel. The first thing that comes to mind is that there is still so much that is unknown about the subject. This makes the behavior hard to stop even though it is present in everyday life for many people. In my opinion, deeper research needs to be done to fully comprehend what is needed in this case. As a high school student myself, there are actions in the novel that I did not know be- forehand.
but Rennie constantly badmouths Kat. The book also includes the third main character
One strength to me was the ending, when I was reading I was just thinking when will it be over. But then the last 5 chapters got me totally sucked in and now I really want to read the next book. Another strength is the real world problems she put in to make teens realize these things. For example she talks about self identity and how Matt saw himself and also political things like drugs and illegal border crossings. So I like how she included some controversial things into the
I really liked the book. It was very enjoyable to read. I would recommend it to my friends, because I think they
For example, at times the story goes too fast and throws the characters at issue. Another main point that I found is the relationships between some characters are written in a way where I see them connecting, like for example Romeo and Juliet but they don't seem that they don't like each other. As a whole Ernest Cline achieves his purpose as an author, the story isn't about relationships, but about people surviving through times of struggle and the power of sacrifice. The author writes in a way that promotes being yourself, becoming what you need to be, and also he writes about how struggle makes a person and the hardships that people go through. The strengths of the book are how the story is an amazing adventure that every kid dreams of. The weakness is the structure of the book and how plot lays out. If he had looked at how the book was written and paced then, it could have been
The weaknesses of the story are just too long. It was too broad, and it will make you boring on some pages. It makes you upset because there’s a twist and some words that they used is hard to understand. Even though there are weaknesses of the story, it will make you be a critical thinker. For the example, on how’s her parents could be find. It is exciting because your expected will not be the same as you expect at the last part of the story. Although it is a true story, there is a doubt that can possibly form in your mind because for me, some details are not possible. But all in all, it is beautiful to have read.
