Many studies have shown a positive link between work and well-being. Research concludes unemployed individuals show lower levels of well-being, reduction in happiness, lower income, and often destroyed self-respect and social relationships (Layard, 2004.) The older person’s importance of having employment is correlated with many aspects of their health and social relationships. It was estimated that in 2011, one out of six Canadians was an older worker, which was much higher from a decade earlier (Government of Canada, 2012). Currently, access to jobs is often limited do to mentioned ageist stereotypes.
