Accounting my field of study The purpose of accounting is to provide the information that needed to make sound economic decisions. It is one of the oldest professions in the world today, and the backbone of any business operation. It is not just about numbers, accounting is about planning. Accounting has many subfields, which includes management accounting, financial accounting, and cost accounting. Accounting can be a prestigious career, but to achieve that prestige you will have pass the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) exam and become a licensed accountant, and with that license you can work in any of the subfields. I enjoy playing with numbers and that is why I choose accounting as my career

Therefore, if you are studying accounting in college you should have an idea of kind of accounting field you wish to enter. There is a quote that said, “CPA is always an accountant, but not all accountants are CPA.” Hence, there are a number of accountants who never pass the CPA exam and though they can perform a variety of accountancy task, they are not allowed to perform certain tasks that only a CPA can do. Hence, no matter if you are, a certified accountant or not you there will be a place for you in the accounting field. The larger companies will go out and hire a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) in order to maintain some form ethics within the company. However, the small businesses might hire an accountant to perform duties as a managerial accounting, cost accounting, and financial accounting. Certified Public Accountants handle a variety of jobs and task. They can offer tax income tax preparation and advise to range of clients including individuals, small businesses, and corporations. Some might choose to work as a forensic accountant to investigate accounting fraud that requires reviewing accounting reports, records and systems to expose any evidence of criminal activities. Other might choose a different path like consultation service, because they rather assist in financial matters with a private clients, not-for-profit organizations, government institutions and financial firms.
The profession of accounting is a one that is highly regulated, due to the knowledge and power each accountant possesses. Although an accountants duties differ from one position to the next, the main sectors that accountants pursue are auditing or taxation. Auditing is ensuring the public that the information listed on the financial statements of public companies is free of material misstatements. While taxation is helping people or companies file their tax returns to the federal government or offering tax advice. In the world of auditing, you either follow the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), for public company audits, or the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), for other entities
Accountants must be accepted into their college's business school or must become a finance major. Most colleges require around a 3.5 GPA to be accepted into the business school. To receive an accounting degree, one must “complete a five-year, 150-credit hour accounting program (awards a bachelor's or master's degree)” (“Accountants and Auditors.” Missouri). 150 hours is much more than most other degrees and shows that accounting is a strenuous course schedule and is not for the lazy. Accountants also must get their CPA license to fully practice; “CPAs are licensed by their state’s Board of Accountancy. Becoming a CPA requires passing a national exam and meeting other state requirements.”

Tax accountants are in charge of individual tax returns, businesses taxes, audits, and other forms of tax record keeping. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Tax accountants earn an annual mean wage of $56,890.
Many students eventually come to a point in their collegiate career that they must decide what path to pursue in their professional careers. For the majority of accounting students, this could not be more challenging since there are such a large variety of career paths to choose from. To further complicate this decision making process, many of the career fields in accounting mandate the individual to obtain certain field related certifications that are essential to that particular field of study. Examples of these certifications are as follows: Certified Financial Manager (CFM), Certificated Public Accountant (CPA), and Certified Management Accountant (CMA). These accounting certifications can sometime prove to be incredibly difficult to obtain.
To go into the accounting field, you must first go to college and obtain either an associate’s or a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Though, most people get their bachelor’s degree. While some people finish their course of studying after just four years, others continue studying up to 150 credits to qualify for certification to become a CPA or otherwise known as Certified Public Accountant. But to become a licensed CPA, one must pass a very rigorous exam which consists of four different sections. The four parts are: Audit and Attestation; Financial Accounting and Reporting; Regulation; and Business Environment and Concepts. Each part is taken once at a time as they are very long, but once you pass a section, you must pass the other three within a period of 18 months.

This certification speaks to the knowledge, credentials and overall ability of the certified and will command the respect of employers and peers ("How Much Does it Cost to Become a CPA?"). For those aspiring to become corporate-level managers or partners in a firm, a CPA is required due to the prestige and respect that accompanies it (NASBA). Even minor promotions and raises are much easier with the CPA certification. Accountants who also desire higher pay should pursue the this certification. According to the 2015 Robert Half Salary Guide, “CPAs can earn between 5% and 15% more than their non-credentialed counterparts” (NASBA).

It all started when I was in standard four, my mother asked my ambition and I said that I want to become a cashier in supermarket. Well, I still young and do not any knowledge regarding accounting. At that time, I only know how to calculate simple calculation. For me, accounting is a basis part in our life because I am very sure that everyone use this accounting concepts in their daily life. For instances, they check how much money that they had spent on that day or even a business firms will record their daily transactions whether it gain or loses. The words ‘Accounting’ begin to develop in myself when I was in high school. This leads me to the world of accounting. In addition, I become more passionate in accounting and finance because my father is a sole proprietorship and he own a small chemical substances business so my passion grow more within business. This enable me to understand some of financial concepts which inspire me to pursue my degree study in university to become a chartered accountant.

Accountant majors may have the ability to run their own business or help other businesses run their business.
