As “A rose for Emily” by Williams Faulkner is read, it is really questionable as to what is really going on in the story. It is one of those story’s that allows people to think about what is going to happen throughout and during the end of the story because it’s hard to determine where the author is wanting to take his readers. It is really just a story about how depressing of a life Emily has until you reach the very last section of the story and then everything comes together and the story finally makes sense as to why the author wrote the story how he did. People don’t expect the story to turn out like it does because the story comes off in a different manner than how the story winds up in the end. During the beginning of the story, it is obvious that the town’s people care about Miss Emily because it starts out at her funeral. Faulkner begins his story with “When Miss Emily Grierson died, our whole town went to her funeral: the men through a sort of respectful affection for a fallen monument, the women mostly out of curiosity to see the inside of her house”. This indicates that Miss Emily was also a well-respected lady and maybe somewhat …show more content…

Once the readers reach the end, the events are tied together but until the end of the story is reached, it is hard to tell where the story is going. Although Miss Emily gives red flags throughout the story as to what may really be going on, the townspeople really only care about getting rid of the smell and there was nothing that could really be done to prevent the acts of Miss Emily. Even though the townspeople were curious, none of them were curious enough to really see what was going on behind closed doors which makes her actions unpreventable. The townspeople had 40 years to go into Miss Emil’s house to figure out what was going on but they didn’t care enough to do so which wound up with people dead that shouldn’t have
