TRAVEL For some travelling can be a way to escape it all and even find love. “I went not expecting to meet the love of my life,” said Army Staff Sgt. Jason Thompson, a photojournalism instructor at the Defense Information School here. He met his wife while on a cruise in the Caribbean. Travelling provides a way for creating relationships and experiencing new cultures, while escaping the hardships of daily life. Thompson did just that. Thompson has been taking trips to the Caribbean since he was a sophomore in highschool. He has been on 10 cruises so far. At first, he would cruise with his family, but as he got older he started to go with his friends, and eventually he met his wife on a cruise. …show more content…
“I never would have met them before.” While on the cruise he met his wife, and they began seeing each other. “I just wanted to go have a good time, have some fun and I met my wife,” Thompson said smiling. Thompson was trying to escape his daily life and take a load off from the strenuous schedule the military can have. Thompson was stationed in Fort Worth, Texas. “My favorite part is just disappearing from life, disappearing from my responsibilities in life. Just taking a moment to breathe, relax and just let my hair down,” he said. While cruising the Caribbean Thompson learned from the locals how to truly relax. He said “Any island, anywhere you go, it’s just such a laid back lifestyle.” He said they, the locals, helped him not take life so seriously and that “nothing is so bad that I can’t just take a breathe and move on.” Travelling isn’t always relaxed and perfectly …show more content…
It was adventurous.” There he was able to see the Eiffel tower and other attractions in London. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Jonathan Carmichael has also turned travel inconveniences into something beneficial. Carmichael, an instructor at DINFOS, used to travel the world as a presidential videographer. He described it as “Hours and hours on a plane and in motorcade vehicles with these people and going through hardships.” While on the plane, usually Air Force One, Carmichael had the chance to form special bonds with those around him, both military and civilian journalists. “We were really tight,” he said. “When you’re doing that over and over again with the same group of people you’re bound to bond and we definitely did.” Many people would see travelling on long flights as dull, but they can be a chance to learn more about others and create lasting bonds. “I have a lot of lifelong friends from that tour,” Carmichael said. While at one of the events he was recording in Rome, he was told there was a problem with his visa. He immediately handed off his camera and ran to the passport office wearing a full suit. It took a week for them to fix his passport. He had to stay an extra week in Rome. This minor inconvenience allowed him to spend a week in Rome and see all the attractions
I love traveling, and not just because it’s fun, but because it exposes you to another lifestyle outside of the norm. According to nbc news, “ Traveling is very good for your health”. Communication skill would improve while traveling because you are less on your phone so you are more social towards others. Traveling can also inspire different ideas based on what was seen. Traveling can also help you get to know yourself because you are away from the hassle of everyday tasks, and you get to learn new things. Traveling on this trip will give me more knowledge as well.
Jeffrey Prosser grew up in Falls City, Nebr. (pop. 5,000). He drove a bulldozer and spliced cable for the telephone company where his father worked. He got an accounting degree at the University of Nebraska. He went to the Caribbean at age 25 on behalf of some Nebraska investors interested in buying an alumina plant in St. Thomas. The purchase didn’t go through, but he stayed.
The diversity of thought among people from all corners of Earth breeds an air of excitement and curiosity. Flying ignites a passion to explore new places and meet new people. I love Lincoln, Nebraska, but I love the exhilaration of new experiences that come with traveling. The unique food, culture, and architecture at every unique location taunt me, calling for me to abandon my home in search of fulfillment elsewhere. Exposure to the cosmopolitan atmosphere of Los Angeles is a breath of fresh air from the monotony of Nebraskan life. Touching down in New York City at the end of a long flight is only the start of a new journey into a melting pot laced with opportunity for those who seek it. The idea of building my own path in a hub of diversity and opportunity is beyond appealing. Traveling to new places with varying demographics and cultures spoils the explorer within me who craves interaction outside of the incubator I call
In today’s fast paced work environments, people who live in the United States are too busy to take the time to travel, unlike Japan where Company’s send families on vacations with all expenses paid. Many people get too caught up in work and their everyday life, while some simply cannot financially afford it, or jobs give very minimum days to take time off. A philosopher by the name of Saint Augustine once said “The world is a book and those who do not travel only see one page” On the other hand, there are many visions of different places I would like to travel too, but even myself will get caught up in work or find it rather difficult to get time off. In addition, that is why I want to join traveling with work and become a traveling nurse.
I am drawn to the thought that vacationing is a way of making everlasting memories, in addition to encountering many diverse cultures around the world.
“He was always a good friend of mind. He would always be there to talk to. He was someone you could have a deep conversation with,” she said.
After getting our welcome in Jamaica the first part of our cruise, we were attracted by the clear blue ocean. When you go father on the island you see the Jamaican flag, marijuana leaf signs, and posters of Bob Marley. We had decided to get a taxi tour guide. Getting a tour guide was one of the best things to do. He talked us to a waterfall, outdoor bar called the ocean on the ridge, then shopping. Our tour guide was fun. He taught us two Jamaican song’s and how to speak Jamaican Patois and we all had the funniest conversations together. After the tour was done we still had a lot of time left. So, we went out to eat on the beach and got back on the
Martin Luther King, Jr., always fought for what he believed in. No matter how difficult the fight got he never gave up. He always accepted the call to adventure. High school is soon coming to an end and I will begin my own hero's journey.
The Thompson family consists of two adults and two children; Marvin, age 29 and Carol, age 25 have been married for five years and have two biological children. “Yeah, going to be on a three-million-dollar Sportfishing boat,” Delano bragged, “Gorgeous women, sun, beach, Caribbean ocean -- what could be better?
In Venice Italy he controlled a Florentine party working for his return it is only a year
In life, everyone experiences a time of hardship, and for the most part, those affected find methods of overcoming the adversity. The idea of getting through hardship is best reflected in; Sherman J. Alexie’s story “This Is What It Means to Say Phoenix, Arizona” (274). In the story, victor whose father had recently died from a heart attack has to travel to phoenix Arizona to reclaim his father’s ashes and his truck. Victor is joined by his former childhood friend “Thomas Builds-the-fire”, who finances the trip to phoenix since Victor did not have the means. They drove back truck from phoenix to the reservation. Throughout the trip, Thomas is always telling stories mostly
“I never ever would have dreamt that I’d make a living out of writing, travelling and doing the things I love (eating, vintage clothes hunting and exploring nature), I’ve always wanted my life to be the funnest life possible.”
I have been able to use my travel as the synapse to what I have learned in school, watched in movies, read in books or experienced from the news. I find myself reminiscing upon the real places on which was reported, the same places I have been. Seeing the diary of Anne Frank in real life and standing in the same place she hid in secret as a teenager was the nexus for understanding the important role travel has played in the balanced perspective of different cultures I have, the similar perspective Anne Frank embraced without regards to her particular circumstance. From this event I also embrace; we are more alike, my friends, than we are
Traveling is something everybody likes to do but some are too afraid to do it and others can’t wait till they get the chance to travel again. Traveling could be done for many different reasons and a few of them are because of the desire to escape a routine lifestyle, for the experience of new adventures, and for the opportunity of getting in touch with yourself. Nowadays most people have a routine lifestyle. Getting up in the morning, going to school or work, and then coming back home, getting your work done, then going to sleep and waking up in the morning to do the same thing all over again, maybe sometimes a few new things will pop up during your week like going out to eat or hanging out with family or friends.
