ITL512 Student Profile Template S TUDENT R EADING L ITERACY D IAGNOSIS Write a short narrative in paragraph form that discusses next steps for this student: I recommend he practice reading grade level books to increase fluency. Practice re-reading the same book several times. I can also have him read aloud so he can hear the words. I believe with time he will increase fluency as he has no issues with phonemic awareness. The best strategy for developing reading fluency is to give your students many opportunities to read the same passage orally several times. To do this you should first know what to have your students read. Second, you should know how to have your students read aloud repeatedly ( Fluency: Instructional Guidelines and Student Activities | Reading Rockets , n.d.) Appropriate Lexile Level Recommendations and Analysis Use Benjamin’s, (2014) Focus on text: Tackling the Common Core reading standards, grades 4-8 (Chapter 2: Text Complexity and Readability Measurements, p. 12) to support your analysis. Indicate the name of the book you might suggest for the two readers and describe the elements of text complexity: quantitative, qualitative, and reader background. (Circle the student for which this profile is being completed) Kindergartener / Third Grader Narrative Text Analysis I Lost My Tooth In Africa By Penda Diakite Lexile:620L The book is a qualitative read.
