Leo, I thoroughly enjoyed reading your discussion post this week. Thank you for sharing a little bit about your hometown. I grew up not too far south from you so much of the hazards you speak of affecting the area I grew up in as well. You mentioned that some adjustments you would take to prepare for a hurricane and/or flooding would be to build a drainage system. Most cities, in particular coastal cities already implement this system. Generally, water and sewer systems are frequently at risk in major storm events. In addition to the loss of power, they can be flooded – both the water and sewer plants, and the lift and pump stations. A better mitigation would be to identify where the weak links are in your systems and what actions would the city need to plan for if they lost a water or sewer plant due to the storm.
