Clay Wagner Professor Stringer ENV-220 January 20, 2023 Milestone One I chose a local nature preserve for this project. I take my dog on lots of walks at ChesLen Preserve and take full advantage of the many trails that are open to the public here. ChesLen Preserve is the largest privately owned nature preserve in Chester County. ChesLen Preserve is over 1,200 acres located in Chester County, Pennsylvania at an elevation of 377 feet. The land is used for hiking, kayaking, historical features, nature playgrounds, and seasonal hunting. There are many native species that inhabit ChesLen Preserve. There are birds such as hawks and blue jays, fish such as suckers and trout and minnows. Deer frequents the area along with foxes, racoons, squirrels, and groundhogs. Ferns, trees, bushes, and grasses are some of the floras that are in the area. The Brandywine creek flows through the nature preserve and provides habitat to many aquatic critters. Residential buildings are close to the preserve, which allows that community to take full advantage of all the activities ChesLen has to offer. There is a lot of human interaction at ChesLen. People hike there every day, and there is hunting as well as fishing allowed on the premises. The Brandywine creek that flows through ChesLen also provides water for the farmlands in the area. Habitats of deer frequent this area as well as a nature preserve called Stroud which is in close proximity to ChesLen. The two habitats have many similarities in species and characteristics.
