| El Segundo, city (1990 pop. 15,223), Los Angeles co., S Calif., industrial suburb 12 mi/19 km SW of downtown Los Angeles, on Santa Monica Bay, Pacific Ocean; 33°55'N 118°25'W. Its prods. include navigation systems, computer systems, semiconductors, aircraft parts and toys, office machines, telephone apparatus, and refined oil prods.; also aerospace research. It was founded (1911) as an oil refinery town. Hq. Hughes Electronics. A U.S. air force missile station is there. Los Angeles Internatl. Airport is adjacent to the city to N. Dockweiler State Beach to N, Manhattan State Beach to S. Inc. 1917. |
