El Oro de Hidalgo (el O-ro de ee-DAHL-go), city (1990 pop. 2,347) and township, El Oro municipio, Mexico state, central Mexico, on central plateau near Michoacán border, on RR, and 70 mi/113 km NW of Mexico city; 19°48'N 100°8'W. Elev. 8,957 ft/2,730 m. Corn, wheat, pears; livestock. Silver, gold, and copper mining; shoe mfg., tanning. Sometimes Real del Oro.
