Effingham, county (479 sq mi/1,241 sq km; 1990 pop. 31,704), SE central Ill.; Effingham; 39°03'N 88°35'W. Agr. area (corn, wheat, sorghum, soybeans, hogs, cattle; dairying). Mfg. (dairy and other food prods., lumber and wood prods., leather gloves and mittens, telephone directory printing, tables, air conditioners, fertilizers, housing components). Oil field. Drained by Little Wabash R. Formed 1831.
