Costilla, county (1,230 sq mi/3,186 sq km; 1990 pop. 3,190), S Colo.; San Luis; 37°16'N 105°25'W. Irrigated agr. area borders N.Mex. on S; bounded W by Rio Grande. Drained by Trindera and Culebra Creeks (forms Mountain, Home, and Smith reservoirs in N). Cattle, sheep; wheat, hay, oats, barley, potatoes, vegetables. Part of San Luis Valley in W and of Sangre de Cristo Mts. in E. Formed 1861.
