Claiborne (KLAI-buhrn), parish (766 sq mi/1,984 sq km; 1990 pop. 17,405), N La., on Ark. (N) state line; Homer; 32°48'N, 93°04'W. Drained by Bayou D’Arbonne (forms L. Claiborne reservoir in center of parish), its Middle Fork, and Corney Bayou (forms Corney L. in NE corner). Oil wells, natural gas. Logging. Agr. (hay, watermelons, nursery crops, grains; cattle, poultry, hogs; dairying). L. Claiborne State Park at SE end, 2 small units of Kisatchie Natl. Forest in NE and N center, part of 3d unit on SW border. Named after the 1st gov. of La. Formed 1828.
