Barnwell, county (557 sq mi/1,443 sq km; 1990 pop. 20,293), SW S.C., bounded SW by Savannah R., NE by South Fork of Edisto R.; Barnwell; 33°15'N 81°26'W. Includes most of U.S. Atomic Energy Commission installation along Savannah R. Agr. includes chickens, eggs, hogs, cattle; dairying; corn, wheat, rye, oats, soybeans, peanuts, hay, cotton, watermelons, asparagus, cucumbers, peaches. Naval stores. Formed 1785.
