| Backbone Mountain, peak (3,360 ft/1,024 m), Garrett co., NW Md., in the Allegheny Mts., near W.Va. border. The highest spot in Md., Haynes Crest, is on the mt., and Table Rock, where Route 50 crosses the mt., is the highest elev. of any Md. highway. Backbone Mt. formed a geographic divide. Rivers on the E side flow into the Potomoc R. and Chesapeake Bay, and rivers on the W side flow to the Ohio R. |
