Delano
 
 
Delano (de-LAY-no), city (1990 pop. 22,762), Kern co., S central Calif., 29 mi/47 km NNW of Bakersfield, in the fertile San Joaquin valley; 35°46'N 119°15'W. The city’s economy is based on irrigated agr. (melons, grapes, tomatoes, beans, nuts, grain; cotton; cattle; dairying); mfg. (plastics prods., machinery). Colonel Allensworth State Historical Park to NW; Kern Natl. Wildlife Refuge to W. Friant-Kern Canal passes to E. Inc. 1915.
