| Bache Peninsula (baich), on E Ellesmere Isl., in N N.W.T., Canada. U.S. explorer Robert Peary proved this area was a peninsula when he explored (1898) the region. From 1926 to 1933 the Royal Can. Mounted Police had a post here, c.800 mi/1,287 km from the North Pole, which was the northernmost habitation in the world. |
