Azua (AH-zoo-ah), province (936 sq mi/2,424 sq km; 1993 pop. 194,209), S Dominican Republic, on the Caribbean Sea;  Azua. Mountainous, semiarid region, bounded N by the Cordillera Central (including Monte Tina, and crossed by the Sierra de Ocoa). Main crops (irrigation) coffee, tobacco, sugarcane, cereals, vegetables; lumbering. Est. 1845; formerly comprised larger area. | | | | Capital city or county seat is shown by the symbol |
