Grangeville, town (1990 pop. 3,226), Idaho co., central Idaho, 50 mi/80 km SE of Lewiston; 45°56'N 116°07'W. In fertile valley of Salmon R., trading point for wheat and livestock region. RR terminus. Lumber milling; mfg.; timber; sheep, cattle; wheat, barley, alfalfa. Hq. for Nez Perce Natl. Forest, to SE. Nez Perce Indian Reservation to N; Snowhaven Ski Area to S. Settled 1876, inc. 1897. Growth stimulated by discovery of gold (1898) nearby.
