Accomack
 
 
Accomack, county (470 sq mi/1,217 sq km; 1990 pop 31,703), E Va., on Delmarva peninsula, bounded N by Md. state line, W by Chesapeake Bay, E by Atlantic Ocean; Accomac; 37°45'N 75°45'W. Poultry processing. Coastal plain agr. area (potatoes, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, fruit, corn, barley, wheat, soybeans; poultry, hogs, cattle; fish, oysters, clams; pine timber). Ocean bathing, tourism, game fishing; many historic bldgs. (some dating from 17th cent.) remain. Off coast (E) lie barrier isls. (Chincoteague, Assateague, Assawoman, Metompkin, and Cedar). Co. includes Tangier Isl. and part of Smith Isl. group in Chesapeake Bay to W (ferry connection). Chincoteague Natl. Wildlife Refuge, part of Assateague Isl. Natl. Seashore in NE; NASA Wallops Flight Center in NE. Formed 1663.
