Ashtabula (ASH-tuh-BYOO-luh), county (706 sq mi/1,829 sq km; 1990 pop. 99,821), extreme NE Ohio; Jefferson, 41°42'N 80°46'W. Bounded N by L. Erie; intersected by Grand and Ashtabula rivers and Conneaut and Pymatuning creeks. Includes part of Pymatuning Reservoir (recreation area). In the Glaciated Plain physiographic region. Agr. (livestock; dairy prods.; fruit, vegetables, corn); mfg. at Ashtabula and Conneaut (inorganic pigments, plastics, transportation equip.); greenhouses, apiaries, wineries. Lake resorts. State parks on L. Erie and near Pa. border. Formed 1811.
