Brusly (BROO-lee), town (1990 pop. 1,824), West Baton Rouge parish, SE central La., 6 mi/10 km SSW of Baton Rouge, and on W bank of the Mississippi R.; 30°23'N 91°15'W. In sugarcane area (sugar plant); mfg. (machinery, shipbuilding); oil and natural-gas fields in vicinity. Named for brule [Fr.=burnt] after practice of annually burning cane.
