Claremont, city (1990 pop. 32,503), Los Angeles co., S Calif., at the foot of the San Gabriel Mts.; 34°07'N 117°43'W. In a citrus farm area diminished by urban development; mainly residential. Mfg. (dairy prods., fabricated metal, glass and opthalmic goods, flavoring extract, electrical equip.). Education center, it is the seat of Claremont branches of Pomona Col., Claremont cols. (school extensions), Scripps, Harvey Mudd, Pitzer, and the Southern Calif. School of Theology. A large botanical garden is also here. Marshall Canyon Regional Park to N; Angeles Natl. Forest to N; Cucamonga Wilderness Area to NE. Inc. 1907.
